Our girl is 7 and loves to be at her desk, this created a cuteness to her room just for her! It's durable, as I sit in it sometimes. It's big enough that she will be able to use it for years to come, but it's not super bulky. The wheels and leg are great quality, haven't had any issues with the lever at all. You do have to put it together yourself, but I did it so you'll be fine.
