Heater is small (a bit smaller than I expected) but efficient for small office. Profile is sleek and unobtrusive, however the handle is soft "leather" not a ridged handle as depicted. Heating element heats up quickly, and I like the remote, so I don't have to reach under the desk to adjust it. Noise level seems ok on low, but on high was a bit distracting. However, I find I only need to run it on low anyway for my space, and my office is generally pretty quiet. Have not noticed any smell. When you hit the power button on the heater or the remote, it starts a 30-second timer to cool down before powering off, during which the fan kicks into high gear and gets louder. This heater is nothing more than a 550 watt PTC heater with a buggy control system. I read and made as much sense of the instructions and controls as I could. HH and LL signify the two power settings. No matter was I did, the highest power drew 550watts with the kilowatt measuring device I have, it could get as high as 600watt on initial start but quickly settles back to less than 550watts. LL draws about 450 watts. The model on the box is PTC-800BR which makes me think the original manufacturer already over rated this 550 watt PTC with fan as 800 watts. I would have kept it but the display and software appear buggy, but I was actually looking for a lower power heater with a remote. If you turn it on to HH the display then changed to 12 and stayed there, and then 13, and then 14, then 15, the stayed at 15. I tried turning the power up per the + and another set of number popped up that allowed me to adjust from 15 to 35. At 15 it would run the fan only, and only at 18 or higher it would kick back up to full power. I tried holding the button and then the numbers went to 59 and then to 95 (no description in manual for any of this). None of this made any sense, and none of it corresponded to power levels. There is also a timer that would count down from 12 hours or less and you can adjust the hours, I was not mistaking this setting for the other oddities described. When you shut it off it times down with a 30 second cool down, then off. The nail in the coffin for this device is the fact it comes with very thin 20AWG wire that if you actually ran 1200 watts through would be a fire hazard, but I'm sure the mfg is aware the is no where near 1200 watts, not even half.
