Ask yourself how much you know about smart devices and then read this post. So if you understand how these and other devices connect and work with other hubs or Home automation software like Home Assistant, well then these little devices work very nicely w/very little setup. If you want to use these guys with one of the big companies that offer cloud services such as Alexa, then again these guys will work nicely as long as you have a hub. Just take into account the ways these guys communicate with what ever your wanting to get into, Remember they wont just work if you buy these and think your phone is going to be able to connect directly to them and work (yes that would be nice) but they are designed for the other ways of connection. If you understand this simple concept you will enjoy your purchase a lot more. Read more

Will not connect to their app. I finally got it connected directly to my smartthings hub, but they only work within a few feet of the hub. Go into the next room and they no longer connect. These are garbage Read more

I got this to integrate with my homeassistant setup. My HA server has a Sonoff Zigbee Dongle/Gateway and I was able to pair these switches with it in seconds. The plug went into pairing mode as soon as I plugged it in, and was discovered by HA. The energy measurements seem to be accurate enough (didn't do too much testing to be sure), and it has two decimal places precision. Problem is its range. Of all the zigbee devices I have, this has to be the one with the least range. Even some my battery-powered sensors have better range. It is spotty just outside the room where I have my HA PC (and dongle) and it just wouldn't connect from a room away. One of the main reasons why I got these zigbee plug (instead of a wifi one) was to improve my zigbee network - this is not going to help with it AT ALL. I went ahead and bought Third Reality plugs, and that works like a charm. It has range many rooms away and even from my basement. It is almost 50% more expensive, but for me it was worth it. This is a Zigbee controlled plug, no different than any number of other Zigbee plugs on the market. The installation instructions (which you have to download via a QR code) are strange. It wants you to download the NOUS app, then connect your phone to the access point that will be used to connect the smart plug. It goes on to say: "Make sure the network frequency range is 2.4 GHz, otherwise the smart plug will not connect as Zigbee Hubs are not designed to work with 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks". Huh? Zigbee has nothing to do with Wi-Fi, other than the fact that Wi-Fi and Zigbee share the same ISM band. It's not clear if the plug actually communicates over Wi-Fi as well as Zigbee, or this has something to do with how devices are paired with the NOUS Zigbee hub. In any case, I ignored all this. I'm using Hubitat as my home automation hub. I just plugged in the device and then started the Zigbee pairing process. Hubitat found the device, although it is not (as of firmware 2.4.1) in their device database so I had to manually select "Generic Zigbee Plug" as the device type. It works, and seems to play nice with the Zigbee mesh so far (many devices do not). Later, after a bit of searching, I found that the user-supported "Tuya Zigbee Metering Plug" device driver seems to support this plug. I compared the power reporting using my hot water circulation pump. The NOUS plug reports 122 volts, 0.231 amps and the Zooz plug it's normally plugged into reports 119.93 volts, 0.22 amps. Close enough: I don't expect extreme accuracy with devices of this type. The device seems to work fine, but I'm giving it four stars because of the confusing installation instructions. Experienced home automation system users won't have a problem getting it to work, but unless you're already using the NOUS ecosystem the installation instructions don't make any sense. In addition, there is no documentation for setting any additional parameters that can be set. Read more

This is a great plug, so far. I have 4 and have had no problems with them. They integrate fully with Home Assistant using Z2MQTT or ZHA. Read more

Connected these to Home Assistant with ZHA. And they do read power. However, they kept shutting off when the appliance ran, making it useless for my use case. Read more
