I bought this as a replacement for the first one I wore our that took about 5 years to use up. Then I find out it has replaceable parts and to be honest the unit is so inexpensive having one for the kitchen and one for the garage is a good idea. It works great for scissors and once you get the feel for it you'll never go to a professional sharpener again. What I really like is on pocket knives to carving knives it restores the blade from nicks and puts a good edge on in just a few strokes. Safe no worries about cutting yourself and keeping the right angle, etc just pull the unit across the blade a few times, done. Many sharpeners require skill, many require oils or if they are electric you can ruin a blade very fast over sharpening it, not this one. It may not have the flexibility to do a first course and then fine edge but for daily use, fast and easy and it takes up very little space, plus it is maintenance free and simple to use, you can't lose. Replaceable blades make this a really great buy and anyone can use it right out of the package. This is a quick middle of the road solution for getting your basic knives and scissors back to a goo sharp useful condition in 30 seconds or less. Great for tool boxes or as a gift for that friend or first time renter as a house warming gift with out spending a ton. I highly recommend it! Yes! All of my pocket knives and scissors are sharp, maybe all of them for the first time in my life! This is a simple and effective product. I have never had a sharpener that worked so well. Don't throw those older scissors away until you try this first! Read more

About twenty years ago, I picked up a knife sharpener with almost identical design. I don't remember the brand anymore and the logo wore off. But it was supremely easy to use (compared to sharpening stones), the knives came out almost as sharp as using whetstones and it was so much faster than hauling out the stones. Finally, it wore out and I found it was easier to buy a new one than to try & find the matching blades. Since the design and performance of the new and old sharpener's seem identical. I'm going to assume, it really is the same. The big disadvantage with these sharpeners is the angle. If you have a mix of Japanese & Western knives you'll need to be careful about matching the sharpener to the blade. Don't grind down too heavily. You're better off trying for a long smooth stroke and adding 2-3 extra strokes to get the edge. About 5-7 strokes is enough for most times. If you are a frequent sharpener, 3 is plenty. These sharpeners tend to take off more metal than good whetstones. But this comparison is heavily dependent on your touch. The one blade that I sharpened almost exclusively using this style of sharpener (a Victorinox fibrox paring knife) looks absolutely stunning after about 20 years of sharpening with this tool. There is no reason why it can't last another 20 years. Simple design, easy to use, superb results, lasts a long time, low cost. How often does that happen anyway? Deserves more than 5 stars Read more

I use this sharpener frequently to keep an edge on my pocket knife and fillet knife. It’s pretty easy to use and the plastic guard keeps my hand safe. The opposing metal sharpening edges preset in a “V” shape help make sure that both sides of the blade are sharpened simultaneously and at the proper angle. It also helps to prevent scratching or damaging the rest of the blade. The ceramic scissor sharpener works okay, but they more quickly showed wear. Light weight and not susceptible to water damage, I keep it handy on my boat. I use my knives frequently and this keeps them sharp as new. If the ceramic part was more durable, I would have given it 5 stars. Read more

It seems to be sharpening my knives quite well! I had something similar to this and it lasted for a nice amount of time, but I loaned it to a friend and she tried to sharpen a serrated blade and destroyed it. This seemed very close to what I had and I haven’t tried the scissor sharpening yet. I hope it hangs in there for a while and no more loaning my things out at all! Read more
