I work in construction so I have to wear heavy work shoes in hot and humid climates. Fair enough to say my shoes and boots come home dirty, wet and dank from 10 to 14 hour work days. These balls do as intended and help eliminate odor and dank humidity that comes with shoes. The smell is not so great it’s just your basic neutral hospital or general grocery store bathroom deodorizer smell. It’s not awful or anything just super generic. However these balls last a very very long time. I use them daily and I’m still on the first two out of the six balls. I’ve been using them daily since I purchased them and it smells just as potent as day 1. I don’t know the life span on these in more humid climates. We just got into summer months and i use these indoors. That being said you are getting what you paid for. If you are sensitive to smells and are expecting like a more aromatic scent this may not be for you. Again just think of your most generic antibacterial soap or deodorizer spray and that’s the scent this gives off. Please note it won’t make your shoes smell this way or you won’t notice the smell unless you place your nose an inch away from the balls or your shoes. One thing I would improve perhaps is the packaging it’s super hard to open and i’m guessing they keep it air tight to avoid product decay. However, there’s no real effective way of opening the packaging without ruining the seal on the balls next to the ones you are trying to open. I just stapled the packaging back down and throw it in a ziploc bag. Minor issue really. Would prefer more of a neutral smell or a manly sandlewood scent but end of day i got what i paid for and the product efficacy and life span is top notch. The smell is likely not for everyone. this will not prevent your shoes from getting funky forever and it will not fix shoes that are too far gone. This is preventative maintenance ie if you use these then you may buy yourself 6 months before your shoes smell off depending on your usage and climate. Read more

That said, the kids love them and have a lot of fun tossing them into their shoes. They’re more of a novelty or gimmick than a serious odor solution in my opinion, but they did what I needed them to do.
