This is a great simple soldering kit. My husband doesn't need one often but bought this because our baby swing broke and we needed to replace the motor, and he wanted to solder it together so it would last longer. It works well, melts great, and is a really great size for when you don't need something big but want to keep it on hand. We kept it even though we don't need it for anything right now, because it's that easy to store and the contents would work for any future products. Well worth the money, and highly recommend. I think soldering electronics components is become almost a lost art. I've been doing it for longer than I care to admit. I actually have a handy kit that I've put together and used for the last 20 years. However handling some of the smaller smd circuits you have to be very careful about temperature control around adjacent components. I selected this kit for its temperature control as well as some fresh, smaller tips. Lately a lot of my work has required using a magnifying headset. I'm even getting ready to invest in a digital soldering stand with a magnifying display. I am pleased with how it feels and adjusts. Feels like it will hold up to years of use. I do have an infrared thermometer that I've used to double check results. The temperature control may be a little bit off, but if you are patient and start at a slightly lower setting you'll know when you are at the desolder point. Great quality kit! I replaced my old gun and it worth every penny! I really do like temperature control screen and function! Easy to see temps even in the bright sunny day. For those who are thinking about buying this because the picture presentation looks good, has decent reviews, and is at a price point that tells you the product you’re buying SHOULD provide adequate results — steer as far as possible AWAY from this. I’m a beginner, but when I pick up new things I like to be as thorough as I can. Aside from this I bought every tool you can think of that would be great for beginners, watched every youtube guide, every pro-tip and pointers videos. I pre-tinned and soldered every single tip attachment out of the box and they still oxidized faster than what you probably imagine someone means when they say FAST. If you needed a kit for a small job, just find a good, locally owned tech shop and they’ll probably get it done for about $40. If you’re like me and need it for a small job but also have interests to eventually expand, do yourself a favor if you’re serious about it and spend the extra money for a good kit that will last you.
