This table top is gorgeous in the pictures, and it’s just as stunning in person! I wanted a standup desk, so I bought the raising mechanism separately, but wanted to top it with something nicer than standard cheap plastic or laminated MDF. This was just the thing! I have long enjoyed biophilic design principles, and the calming sense of deep interconnectedness that comes with bringing nature indoors. This table top is not only far sturdier than traditional cheaper composite materials, but the beauty and benefit of using a product closer to its natural state are difficult to quantify, and undoubtedly exceed the price difference. The only thing that makes me take off a star is the lack of transparency about the product brands and/or VOC/HAP content of the glues and sealants used. All it says are 3 coats of UV protection and 2 coats of PU (which means polyurethane) Most glues, epoxies, urethanes, and high gloss sealers are toxic and continue to off-gas for years in a way that negatively impacts indoor air quality, so information on the specific ingredients or SDS’s would be prudent in order for the consumer to be able to make an informed decision for themselves based on their own sensitivities and health conditions. Being that this information is not provided, it most likely indicates that traditional, unhealthy versions of these products were used, so I then had to coat it with AFM hard seal to lock in any toxic fumes, VOC’s, and HAP’s in an effort to protect my indoor air quality (and thus the health of those breathing it). I am slowly renovating my office by upgrading the materials used for various furnishings etc and this lovely table top has been a fantastic new work surface for me. That it came pre-finished was a huge bonus for me, no added prep work. It fit perfectly in the nook where I wanted it to go and it has made using my space a lot more functional.
