This David has one trick its Goliath big brother, Sonic Alert SBB500SS Sonic Bomb Loud Dual Alarm Clock with Bed Shaker , and angry sibling, Sonic Alert Loud Alarm Clock SBS550ss The Skull with Vibrating Shaker , doesn't, a USB connector. The bed-shaking device works great and will wake you up and the alarm is loud enough to wake the dead. However, as I said before, what sets this apart from the larger version and the angrier version is the USB charging connection. Now the USB connection does not automatically set the clock as with iPhone and the iHome iPL8BN Stereo FM Clock Radio with Lightning Dock for iPhone/iPod - Black , but the iHome was never this loud, nor does the iHome have the ability to shake the bed. What's really nice is the inclusions of the USB charger means limited bed stand room is optimized. No need for a separate charger for the cell phone. In short, if you want a radio or a smart phone speaker, this is not the alarm for you. However, if you want to WAKE UP (all capitals intentional) and charge up your phone, this is the alarm clock for you! Read more
My husband has pretty severe hearing loss and says this alarm clock works. It's loud enough and because it buzzes at intervals, it gets your attention better than a steady sound that you can ignore. It also has a vibration feature you can put under your pillow. And if that's not enough, it also flashes a pretty bright light you can see through your eyelids. Read more
I have narcolepsy and have to wake up halfway through the night to take my meds. (It’s weird but it works.) This is rarely an easy task but necessary—I am not ok the next day if I don’t get my second dose, and my cell phone alarms (plural) are rarely effective. Like many narcoleptics I’ve always struggled to wake up in the AM, defeating lights, buzzers, radios, puzzles, smart watches, and thinking I’m up getting ready when I’m only dreaming about it. I got the full-sized version of this clock a few years ago and while I loathed its effectiveness, I appreciated its effectiveness. I just have no clue where it is after a move. I’m back to struggling to wake up for my second dose so I ordered the Junior version of the Sonic Bomb thinking its features might suit my needs better (especially the USB charging port). The Junior’s bed shaker is half as powerful as the full-sized—a less-violent, just-right awakening. I was a little apprehensive I wouldn’t feel it but it’s just right for me. I put it under my sheets instead of under my mattress like the original. I don’t use the sound buzzer and haven’t accidentally set it off yet (knock on wood) so I can’t speak to that. The petite size of the Junior is just right for me to tuck behind my pillow, and I think the Junior disc is smaller than the regular. I don’t know if this one has fewer buttons/options on it, but it seems easier to set/operate than the bigger one. It comes with good instructions. My one source of disappointment is the USB charging slot—it’s quite lackluster. My phone was plugged in there for most of the afternoon but only reached 37%; to make sure it wasn’t a problem with my phone I plugged it in to my white noise/wake up lamp alarm clock and it charged fine. It does get to 100% overnight. Also, I think the 12/24h setting is linked to how it draws power? I like 24h time but had odd issues with the outlet it uses while on 24h time that don’t exist with it in 12h time. Not certain, but I vaguely remember some reviews for the original discussing this quirk. Read more
My daughter is a heavy sleeper and is very hard to wake fully. This gets her up and moving! Read more
If you need a fun toy to use on yourself as a last resort (ladies I'm looking at you here) then this thing will blow your mind! However if you're looking for a multifunctional alarm clock that will wake you up from the craggy depths of a deep slumber with the burning tenacity of ten thousand suns, then there may be better alternatives out there. The pros of this little bomb are: -The vibrate function makes my dogs think an earthquake is occurring as they wake up in a panic as soon as the vibrates begin -The vibrate function vibrates the entire bed (I have a latex memory foam bed) -LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS ALARM - Adjustable alarm & tone features, you get to control how shrill or deep the tone of the alarm goes -Volume will pierce into your soul to wake you up -Ability to change the snooze duration Cons -Only one alarm can be set -Cannot change the vibration feature (pulse, steady, etc) -No multi-alarms means you can sleepwalk to the alarm and snooze it or turn it off - Read more
