Great Toy

I have had this for some time and this is a great piece of equipment. It has all the connects that anyone should need, usb, av, dual earphone and the screen does a 180 for compact viewing as on the headrest of a vehicle. Battery lasts long enough for those two disc movies with some power to spare. As it has l-ion as its battery source this adds to it being lighter in weight than its predecessor and it's a Sony Read more

Just so-so

I honestly expected more from a Sony and with the price. It plays fine and I like having a remote control. The keys on the remote don't sync perfectly with the player so you'll have to learn how to use it. Also, the buttons on the player itself don't all work, so you're forced to use the remote. Finally, there's no brightness function to dim or brighten. As a result, it's a little dim. I don't think I'd buy this again. Read more

Plays em all.

I needed a portable BluRay DVD player that would play all formats including .mkv files. This one does. Plus I hook my passport into the USB port and this one plays all the movies I have downloaded onto it. The controls respond to a very light touch of your finger. My one complaint is the FF or Fast reverse controls which are a pain to operate. You have to hold down the button the entire time. But the picture and sound are great and the battery lasts about 5 hours. That was a biggie in my decision to purchase this one and I'm glad I did. Read more

Great for deployments

This blu-ray player is just what I was looking for when I deployed. There were alot of movies that I wanted to watch in blu-ray quality. The swivel function and remote made it convenient for use, and it's size made it very portable, especially when traveling. I used an HDMI to DVI converter to hook it up to a computer monitor and had 22" HD movies at my disposal. Read more

Great Player But Not Perfect

There is a newer version of Sony's portable BR player but I opted for the older version for a few reasons. First of all the BDP 1000 has a larger screen at a full 10.1 inches vs only 9 for the BDP 910. It also has a longer battery life at 5 hours and a longer power cord. There were a few complaints that the cord for the newer BDP 910 was too short so this was a no brainer. The price has also fallen dramatically most likely due to the newer model in the marketplace. So far, I love this player. It has a great screen and since I have other Sony BR players, shuffling through the menus and using the remote is a breeze. My biggest gripe with the player is the large whirring sound of the motor running. I guess when you're watching the player from just a few feet away, hearing the noise from the machine is going to be a given. The BDP 1000 is still an excellent player and placed next to my computer, it allows me to catch up on all the BR movies as I work off my computer. Read more

why????...../.

would anyone pay a thousand dollars for this player only to find out 2 years later the battery is not replaceable. I bought one a few years ago at about a 3ird of this price (region free version too) and it s now junk sony wont fix it, the dealer has no interest in out of warranty and there are no supliers for thisLion battery. It could be replaced by a tecnonerd if batteries were available. tRUE CRAP Read more

It's all about the battery.

The battery in this DVD player is NOT user replaceable. So basically, you should view this machine as having a 2 to 3 year life span. An Internet search revealed that there are no third-party batteries or suppliers to service this machine. Therefore, one would have to take it to Sony where IF a battery were available, replacing it would be VERY expensive. There's nothing thin or light about this machine (it' not Apple) it could have been easily designed with a user replaceable battery. Instead, Sony has manufactured another disposable product that will likely end up in a landfill way ahead of its time. I suppose I could have done more thorough research and discovered this sad fact prior to my purchase. However disclosing a defect "in advance" does not make the company less responsible for poor design decisions. This unit will only play "R1" NTSC DVDs or "A" Blu-Rays. Also, UOPs (User Operation Prohibition) are enabled, prohibiting the viewer from Fast Forwarding during sections of a DVD that are protected by this universally loathed feature, meaning that you may be FORCED to watch certain content (previews, long introductions) that you have no interest in.
