Have you ever been stranded on the side of the road and thought "No worries, I have a jump starter with me!" You pull it out. You start to clamp it on the battery, only for the clamp to snap in half? Well, I have. The fantastic news about this one? The entirety of the clamp body has thick copper -- you don't need to worry about these snapping. They will outlive the battery. Additionally, the male connector which plugs into the jump pack feels sturdier than most lithium jump packs I've owned. Speaking of the battery -- let's talk about it. The manufacturer claims 4000mAh at 44.4Wh. Opening the device, I see a battery model "ST806888NSH35", rated 4000mAh at 44.4 Wh. But, how safe is the battery? Well, the battery has a UL certification logo, meaning it has been certified for safety in a US Nationally Recognized Safety Laboratory. So, unlike your run of the mill cheapo lithium batteries, this one has actually been certified for safety. When charging, this battery gets a touch warm, but not warm warm. Additionally, kinda surprising, the leads from the battery are actually the same gauge as the wire leading to the clamps. Oh, and are you like me and you leave your charger plugged in when you're driving, so that way you have a backup in case your car battery or alternator dies? Only to find out that the micro USB contacts wore out a long time ago, and the battery is dead? Well, the great news about this one is that it is much more rigid and uses USB-C. So -- not only will you get faster charging, you'll also get the ruggedness of USB-C. I've owned a lot of jump starters throughout the years. When you combine all of the above factors, and if we're only talking about smaller lithium ion ones, this is by far the best one I've ever owned. You can really feel the quality that went into this devices. It has zero issues jump starting my 2.4L, and I don't need to worry about those failures you don't think about as I listed above. I have two minor quips about this device. First, you cannot buy a replacement battery for this. Second, it does not come with a case. BUT, given that this is chargeable via USB-C, I plan to leave it plugged into my car's USB-C outlet. That way, I will *always* have a backup in case my car battery or alternator dies. Read more

This Stanley jump starter has become a regular part of ranch life. We keep it in the truck for when the batteries on the work vehicles die after leaving lights on overnight or during cold starts that drag everything down. Last month the old diesel pickup wouldn’t turn over at all so I hooked up the clamps the smart controller gave a solid green light and it fired right up no hesitation. The storage capacity is something to behold. The 2000 peak amps handle our V8 engines without breaking a sweat and the powder-coated clips feel sturdy enough to take rough handling. The weight is substantial, but not unreasonable. Its small size means it tucks away easy under the seat yet the USB-C PD port at 30 watts charges our phones quick when we’re out fixing fences all day. The USB-A stays handy too. We use it more for powering devices than jumping these days but when we need the jump it delivers. The power is more than adequate to deal with all of it. The only downside is the recharge time takes longer than I’d like after heavy use. Overall it’s reliable and worth having around. One thing I notice is it holds charge well over weeks of sitting. Overall I'm mixed on this lithium jump starter. If I could give it 3.5 stars I would as I'm not sure it deserves 4. It seems a decent build quality and like all of these units has built in safety features. I've always liked the brand and suspect that under the right conditions it will work well. Just keep in mind this is intended as an infrequent-use backup for a weak vehicle battery. It's not a battery replacement nor is it intended for continuous use. It's not something any roadside assistance crew would use. It's for gasoline engines and in practicality for mid-size or smaller engines. This would not be appropriate for diesel engines, and likely no jump starter of this nature would be. So have realistic expectations. Due to the safety features, this unit (and all made like it) will not function if a battery is completely dead. Now this is uncommon if the vehicle had been being used on a regular basis as it will most likely still have a weak charge, but it is a real possibility. The manufacturer doesn't state what the cutoff voltage is for the unit to still operate. Is it 10 volts? 5, 3? Who knows. Personally, I dislike this "feature" as I could be stranded with a jump starter which is fully charged and ready to go, but unable to use it. As all of these types of starters are built this way, it's not brand specific. On the flip side, it's much smaller than a traditional type starter pack which doesn't have the same safety features. But it's also not 40 pounds and very large. For the price point, I feel a case should be included. I don't want all the components loose in the vehicle, nor do I want to use the box. It would have been a minimal expense to add. Overall, the unit could be very helpful in the right circumstances. I would much rather the voltage sensing circuit not be present, and would feel much more confident about its emergency use. Particularly as it could still have reverse-polarity protection, which I am much more concerned about. In all, I think most people would be okay with it. Just know its limitations (like all of these, as it's not brand specific!). Read more
