Hands down the best true wireless in ear buds on the market. Originally was a little worried about ease of connectivity as I came from Airpods which connected instantly to iPhone. Status’ product has little to no noticeable difference in connection speed or quality. Better yet, when I switch out of iPhone, I’ll be able to use LDAC for even better audio quality. The Status app is fantastic. Everything you need on one main screen. There is a very high chance the stock EQ from the app will be unsatisfying but with the ability to create a custom EQ profile, I created some examples I found online, and merged them to fit my listening style. Now that the EQ is tuned properly, these earbuds make it feel like my jaw is shaking from the bass. Crisp highs with solid mids and unmatched bass performance make these sound better than my Sennheiser bluetooth over ears. Never had any issue with battery life either. Finally, the noise cancelling is scary good. Walking through the factory at work, it’s completely silent. So much so I cant use them around the factory in Noise Cancelling mode for safety purposes. The app even has a feature to play super loud sounds from the earbuds if you misplace them from the case. Overall, 11/10. These are astonishingly good by the standards of true wireless earphones and hold their own against comparable and much more expensive wired IEMs. If you value sound quality over all else, you’ll likely be satisfied—and in terms of other TWS features, they’re still great. There are a couple of issues I feel grumpy about that I’ll get to at the end, but in general I can’t recommend Status Pro X enough. Let’s start with what is the most important to me — sound quality. I am accustomed to audiophile sound, and it has made it hard for me to enjoy music on gear that does not provide the level of detail and the kind of frequency responses I am accustomed to. I own Hifiman Ananda Stealth, Focal Elex, and Aune SR-7000, and I’ve owned other great audiophile headphones. My wired IEMs are the Thie Audio Oracle Mk III, which runs $600 and has 6 drivers, and I used to own the Xenns Tea Pro, which runs $350 and has 8 drivers. I use the Oracle when I’m on the go, which is inconvenient because I can’t take calls, there is only passive isolation, and I have a chunky wire running to my phone or portable amplifier. For a long time, I’ve wanted the convenience of true wireless earphones without compromising on the sound quality and I just figured it wouldn’t be possible for some time to come. That time has arrived. Although I haven’t tried some of the other high-end true wireless headphones, I can confidently say that the Status Pro X is an audiophile-grade true wireless headphone. It is more detailed and resolving than the Xenns Tea Pro IEM, and it gets 80% of the way to the quality of the Oracle MkIII. Out of the box, its stock tuning is a soft implementation of the V-shaped frequency response most consumer grade earphones offer, and I was surprised at how good it sounds. The “audiophile” setting is basically a competent, inoffensive implementation of the Harman target, and the Knowles Preferred is more focused on upper mids and high treble. None of these are perfect, but because there’s a decent 8-band EQ in the app, I was able to quickly optimize the Knowles Preferred setting to dial in my preferred sound quite easily (taming the 14khz treble, slightly damping mids). And I just could not be more pleased with the sound at this price point, especially given that this is a true wireless headphone. The sound is balanced, impactful, and fun. It reminds me a lot of the Focal sound, where upon my first listen I had trouble skipping to another song to try a different sound or calling it a night and taking them off. As engaging as they are, they are still refined. I am just blown away by the level of timbral quality and detail they deliver across every instrument, and especially with the instrument separation and soundstage. Regarding that, I have A/B’ed these a dozen times against my Oracle MkIII using Hotel California live (cliché as it is), and the differences demonstrate the law of diminishing returns: the Status Pro X gets to 80% of what the Oracle can do for half the price. The biggest difference is actually not in soundstage, but in the timbre. With the Oracle you can hear a more rounded, multi-dimensional quality in the guitar plucking, and the bongo drums sound spatially more separated. But note that the relatively lower detail of the Status Pro X is not necessarily a bad thing — the bongos hit much harder, and not much is lost with the guitar. Also, what am I doing comparing a $600 wired IEM to a $300 true wireless headphone? Another anecdote while I am raving: I was listening to a podcast interview recorded in a concert hall and could hear a woman cough in the audience and instantly envisioned her sixth row stage right. On a side note, I was ready to buy the Technics AZ-100 until I learned about the way that its “microfluid” driver artificially dampens the natural distortion that brings life to certain instruments, especially electric guitar; the YouTube channel DHRME recorded this and I immediately hard passed on it, and I’m glad I found the Status Pro X instead. And now I'm even considering selling my Oracle MkIII. For all the other things: ANC is as good as anything I’ve had before (most recently the Jabra Active Elite 8 and a couple of different previous Jabra generations), although it could do just a tiny bit better at silencing outside treble. The hear-through/ambient is just out of this world. I have been told that the call quality is crystal clear, although I do know that it picks up wind and I have not tried the wind reduction feature. The connections are effortless and drama-free. The touch controls are reliable and responsive (the buttons don’t do much; you can’t reprogram them and their functionality is limited, and they’re hard to press). The drawbacks are few. First, you can only use the touch controls to switch between ANC and ambient; to access a default mode, you have to switch in the app. The battery life is not the best, but it’s perfectly adequate; I am a little bit surprised at how fast the case battery can drain, but again, perfectly adequate. These compromises are tiny when you consider the music quality. Now the stuff I’m grumpy about. The main thing is it doesn’t come with enough ear tips. The large ones didn’t form it great seal on my left ear, and the insertion depth doesn’t provide the passive isolation and stability I want (it felt like they would fall out, even though they wouldn’t). Worse than that, they are cheap and flimsy. I was really annoyed that I had to research ear tips and find something that had a wide bore and increased depth while still fitting in the case; the Azla Sednafit Short does the job, but ultimately it was some random pair of tips from a grab bag I got for 6 bucks last year that worked best. They fit in the case, just barely. But I just think it’s so obnoxious to sell a premium product and skimp on the essentials like this. I also think such a premium product should have a 2-year warranty. Those grumbles aside, I couldn’t be happier with this product, and I just hope it holds up beyond the 1 year for which it is warranted. Read more
I am genuinely impressed with how well these perform for the price. The sound quality holds its own against other top‑reviewed options from Technics, Sony, and Noble, yet these come in at a noticeably lower cost. The styling may not appeal to everyone, but I still think they look premium and feel comfortable in the ear. Pairing is fast and effortless, and the companion app is clean, responsive, and packed with customization options. You can adjust everything from the EQ to the touch controls to the noise cancelling settings. Noise cancelling is solid and significantly reduces background noise, even if it does not eliminate it entirely. The earbuds feel sturdy and well-constructed, and the case is simple but durable. I compared these directly with the much more expensive Devialet Gemini IIs and was surprised by how close the sound quality is. The Devialet pair may have a slight edge, but they retail for over five hundred dollars with tax, while these cost about half that. I also had zero connectivity issues with this pair, which is more than I can say for the Gemini IIs. Highly recommend for anyone wanting premium performance without the premium price.
