The base for the greatest Street Fighter ever released!

AllrounderFebruary 18, 2016

I play Street Fighter since the very first game. I always liked this fighting game series a lot, of course some releases more some less. Street Fighter IV was a long time one of my favorite games, until I realised I won't get any better, loosing a lot, because after all I am not taking these video games too serious. It was hard to master and a lot of practice necessary, which I just didn't want to do. Now Street Fighter V got released and I am all fire again, there is still no other game out there which gets me so excited by playing it. And I like the new style of the game very much, find the soundtrack so far better and love the new combat system. Especially the new combat system let's me hope to have even longer fun with the game than with SF IV, because it is easier to handle but still complex enough. Some of the graphics are maybe somewhere extreme (proportions of the characters) when you compare them with Street Fighter graphics so far, but if you know Street Fighter also from Movies and Comics, it is still normal.....the previous SF IV was not much different anyway. And it just looks beautiful through and through with nice smooth motions. The netcode is better than before, I had no problems so far and the online matches are running great for me. Because you play now with/against PS4 and PC players, you even have a bigger player pool to get your matches from. But the next update in March will us also give some improvement in that direction. Let's go from here straight to the negative side, why people down vote this game so bad, the content. Yes, right now there is not much content. You actually get the most important parts: local Versus and online Fights. In addition some small extras, like short missions and training. For a full price game these days (some years back this was ALWAYS ALL you ever got) not enough, true. BUT!!! Capcom announced this long time before release and they had their reason to do it like this, the Capcom Cup. Street Fighter tournaments are a huge thing out there and they want to have the next season with Street Fighter V on the start AND people having enough time in advance to practice! That's why they did what they did.....not everybody has to like that, but it's just the way it is. This being said, there was also right from the start a given timeline when people can expect new content, coming shortly after release to make Street Fighter V the game it is supposed to be in 2016. You can find this timeline easily by searching for "sfv dlc schedule". Already in March a lot of things will be updated to make a big step forward, with a new fighter, skins and game modes. In June the biggest Single-Player campaign Street Fighter ever had will be added. Every month up to September a new fighter will be released (means 6 new ones for this year), including new skins. All this will be for free! New characters and skins can be bought with fighting money you earn during playing....or optional with real money. That is also where the Season Pass 2016 fits in, it will cover all new fighters + for each one a new skin, this year. Capcom plans a long investigation in Street Fighter V. Unlike previous SF games, they want to update this one for a long time, without giving each time new versions like Ultra, Arcade what so ever. This is how the Shop found it's way into the game. With a combination of real money and fighting money, they want to raise this game up every year. To let the fighting scene grow much bigger than it is now and make sure to not seperate them with different game versions. This means new characters, skins, maps, game modes, gameplay updates and whatever else they have in mind will find its way into Street Fighter V, even after 2016 and for everybody (using the given options over the shop). Some words to the Collector's Edition. It is well worth it! The Ryu statue is really nice and made out of solid material, looks great. The (small) artbook looks fine too. You get some comics and music for free (on the back of 2 nice postcards). Of course the statue is the highlight and the main reason why somebody would want that edition. And with the price not too high + all the goodies, you get what you pay for. So yes, I think Street Fighter V deserves 5 stars. Maybe not right after release with only looking at the content now, I still can understand some disappointment. But everything was well communicated before and there is no doubt in my mind that the updates, coming in the given timeline, will bring this game to the potential it already well shows, and it will surpass its predecessor easily (from the fighting side it already does). You can like all that or not, just don't buy the game if you don't and without being informed and than upset.....about well known and only temporary things. SF V just doesn't deserve the 1-2 stars haters everywhere! Read more

Not your typical cheap figure

AJApril 13, 2016

This will be more of a review of the package in total rather than the game. But I will comment on both. I bought this collector's edition solely because it was not terribly expensive! With prime discount for pre-orders I got the game for around $80 USD. It includes the game, some downloadable comics, soundtracks and a costume for Bison that's... decent, I suppose. It's not really much better than his usual costume. I never redeemed the codes for the other stuff and doubt many will, but I have the game and the figure so let me tell you about that... This figure is HUGE. It comes in a few pieces: you plug the feet into the legs and the legs plug into the top half via the waist. It's SOLID, pretty heavy and supremely detailed for a pack-in bonus. Honestly, the figure is qualitative enough to be something I could see people buying externally just for how good it looks. I HIGHLY recommend this if you are a Ryu fan, a Street Fighter collector, or if you were on the fence about shelling out the extra dough. The game? It's good. It's different but still good. It's nice to have a next-gen version of Street Fighter but it is guilty of all that people were saying of it. It's entirely bare for a new release, it has a weak and limited roster, the censorship of Mika infuriates me to no end, the shop JUST started working and now we can buy costumes, colors and characters- but it was too little, too late. I understand the game tanked in sales, but that's because word-of-mouth spreads fast. Casual fans I know were already bad-mouthing it off what they heard. But again- the game is NOT bad. It's fun, it's new and they changed it just enough to make you have to re-learn a lot of stuff. So, the game is worth a purchase, especially for for the fighting game community. However, I do recommend getting another controller- perhaps the Japanese Fight Commander? Read more
