These replaced old fluorescent fixtures in my laundry room/workshop studio in the basement. The old fluorescent fixtures had those awful old ballasts that hummed and smoked when they went bad, and almost impossible to dispose of tubes that flickered and put off a ghastly light. These were a fantastic upgrade! Physically these are much lighter, the light itself is brighter, it's more efficient, and just a better quality of light output. Installation was easy: After removing the old fixtures from the ceiling (omg those beasts were heavy), I screwed these into the studs in the ceiling and then wired these in permanently using the original circuit so they come on with the wall switch. Just two screws hold the each fixture up on the ceiling! They really are that lightweight. They function as a direct replacement of the old fixtures, but with much brighter and better light. One drawback (or at least something to be aware of up front), is that no, the tubes in these aren't removable. But if the units ever do go out, it would be no trouble to replace the whole fixture. When I get around to doing my garage and replacing the florescent tubes in there, I will definitely be using these again! They're great, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Read more

I'm very happy with these lights overall. The 5k lighting is very bright and everything seems to have their normal color but more importantly my whole garage is lit up again. When I replaced my old fluorescents with LEDs, my power bill dropped about $50-$100 a month depending on how much time I spent in the garage. Those were bulbs you had to rewire your ballast with and the company quickly disappeared after I bought them and imagine that, most of them died on me ;) I've seen SunCo around for quite a while so that's good when considering a warranty. There were 3 reported issues I'd like to give feed back on. Buzzing, Visible Wires, and the Evil Cover. Buzzing: Each one of them has a buzz/hum to it. It's not very loud but you'll hear em if it's quiet but I'm sure a casual conversation would be enough to mute it. Visible Wires: If you can see your wires, then you just didn't spend any time tucking them up. This is true for ALL shop lights and any light source for that matter. If you have an object in the path of the light.... You will.... See it! Only pull enough wire that you need and tuck back up as much as you can. There's a lip on the side where you can force your wires to stay and you'll never see 'em. One key thing I did was to NOT remove the taped wires from the LED lights. I left 'em in place and dealt with the hassle of connecting short wires but I have a clean install. Evil Cover: First, pay attention to how seamless these covers are to the frame. This is important when reinstalling ;) As for most this took some thinkin and tinkering but I have a consistent method now. First, get one of those cell phone repair kits with the nylon pry tool or really just a plastic non-marring pry tool. A guitar pick would be perfect! Wedge your pry tool under the cover in the center of the light, don't even bother attempting from the ends. Once it's wedged as far as it will go, do NOT pry with it. While holding the wedge, slip 1 or more fingers under the cover where you're wedging. Use your other hand and grab the light housing with your thumb running along the housing along the cover but NOT on the cover. The rest of your hand/fingers are gripping the side and bottom of the housing. Squeeze firmly but don't crush it and rotate your wrist outwards and you'll lightly bend out the housing. Now your other hand with the wedge and fingers under the cover and lift/squeeze and pop that cover off. VOILA! :D :\ Once it makes sense and you get it, you can do this repeatedly in a few seconds. Getting the cover back on now... Lining up one end or trying to line up one whole side works but it will take some effort and time to pop it all in and when you first get it in and think you're done... YOU'RE WRONG!!! :D Go up and down with both hands and you'll be able to keep popping it in. If you're in but too far to one side so the other side isn't seating, just grab the unhinged end and pull/slide it the other way till the other edge is fully against the hinged side, and then the unhinged side will finally play a bit nicer. This is why I said to pay attention to how seamless these covers are. You are not done until you get this back to the way it was when you opened the box. It'll look almost right but you'll be able to get a few more pops in then it will be 100% flush. Overall I'm very happy since I only have 1 LED tube vs. 2 LED tubes so half the power and the same amount of light as the T8 dual bulb re-wire your ballast LED job. I think I paid twice the price for just the bulbs vs. these too so overall MUCH MUCH better! They've only been up for a couple weeks so we'll see how time goes. If only I had taken care of this when I rebuilt my entire suspension and welded it with just the garage door lights and a lamp :D :| Have fun! Read more

The lights are quite bright and the fixture is easy to put it. I gave it 4 stars because the cover is a pain to install after the fixture is put up. Read more

So I started with a different product when we built our home. I was extremely happy with the value and light output from those units. They only problem that I had was that at about 4 years they ALL started to fail one after another. I purchased these units to replace them whenever I had the time. DO NOT GET THESE! My initial thought process was that these LED fixtures, though more expensive than basic and traditional florescent tube shop lights was that the LEDs would be slightly cheaper to operate, as well as having the benefit of LED's lasting nearly forever. What a wonderful imaginary land that would be. Sure, LED's IN THEORY last like 30K hours of use. The problem is the cheap Chinese step down transformers that power them WILL NOT! Well GUESS WHAT! All that crap is built into the fixture. There are no user serviceable parts, so inevitably when that transformer goes bad because its made of trash capacitors etc. now you have to replace an ENTIRE FIXTURE! Do you have any idea how annoying and difficult it is to replace a 4ft fixture while balancing on top of a ladder fiddling with a 6" pigtail of power wires and wire nuts?! It's a nightmare. Please for the love of god do not get these style of fixtures. Go buy the basic cheap florescent fixtures, and if you just have to have LED's, there are LED drop in replacements for the T8 florescent tubes, and when they will inevitably go out, it's a seamless literal 15 second replacement. All that being said, these lights also do not have a good distribution of light. There is not a good diffuser in the fixture causing a pointed visible light source as oppose to a more pleasing soft glow from the entire fixture. Sunco however has been a good company when it comes to warranty replacement when they die early and I have had little issues getting replacements sent out for free when they are under warranty. I cannot say the same for the other companies I have used. My complaint is mostly with this style of light fixture itself, not Sunco. Read more
