Love my new Tatung rice cooker / steamer. I use it for the steaming function since I own a separate smaller Zojirushi rice cooker that is the right size for the two of us. But this steamer is so functional, I use it every day, steaming dumplings, vegetables, chicken with onion, steamed egg. Made turnip cake two times since I got the rice cooker! It is so convenient, just push the power and forget about it. I don't know why I waited so long to get this rice cooker / steamer. :) Also love this all stainless steal model! Read more
Every one should purchase this. Highend quality . Read more
Well worth the price and easy to use. I have cooked several types of rice. Love the double-boiler principle on how it works. Never any burned rice. I have done white, Basmati, jasmine, brown, red and black rice. No complaints. Thumbs way up. Update 11 years on- the simple wonderful cooker has not missed a beat. It looks nearly new as I am a touch anal in some charming ways. Never a splutter, cooks dependably, love to hear my robo-buddy's lid gently bounce occasionally and then go CLUNK when its finished. I wish all of life were this dependable. BIFL pays off in this case even if tariffs and inflation have caused the price to double since I bought it! Read more
I bought this one from Amazon, very upset for the rice cooker, the taste of the rice is terrible, taste is so bad, totally waste of money and I am not recommend to any buyer because the design of this cooker is a big problem. I have used Panasonic and aroma both, rice taste good, my aroma dead so I want to buy a new good one, this one cost me $140 and seems good. But after I bought it and cook it base on manual, it taste very bad, the rice is too moist, it taste like raw rice not like a rice soup. I finally find out the issue with this cooker, it use the outer water\steam to heat instead or real heat, yes, it does not burn, but the problem is waster steam then come to the inside pot and make the rice very moist, then it make the rice lose its own taste and make it taste like you put your rice in the water for 3 days and then cook it. I am so uppset with the taste. think about this, if you put your water in a big steam pot and then put a big bowl with water\rice in the bowl with cover and heat the steam pot, will taste be good, no!!! even my parent's parent know that will not taste good so they never cook that way, they just put waster in a pot then heat it. the design of the tatung is a big problem, how you can make the rice taste good if the rice is too moist after cooked? Now I am returning the $140 Tatung and buy the aroma again, I checked the aroma 8 cup, that one is the best seller with 4000 top review, so regret did not buy it at first time. I highly suggest buyer not buy Tatung rice cooker cause it really taste terrible. Go for Aroma or Panasonic, either one taste good. Read more
I like this rice cooker better than the Oyama brand. The rice is cooked perfectly and the cooking technique it employs makes the rice more flavorful. It is also not messy. I am happy that I found this rice cooker. It is so easy to clean and it does not have the crust that forms around the lid that you normally have to deal with in the Oyama brand. I will definitely buy this brand again. Buy it, you definitely will not regret it. Read more
So I had a Sanyo Rice Cooker and it was the bomb till my inner pot started flaking it's nonstick coating, whoa whoa whoa.. Health Hazard! But whoa is me because nowhere can be found in the Internet universe an inner pot replacement. For those who don't know, Teflon and aluminum are bad for you but don't take my word for it, do your own homework. I will confirm that the inner pot and outer pot are made of stainless steel, says right here on the box :$. But I'm happier and healthier because it's stainless steel which means that I don't need to try to find an inner pot replacement for many years to come whoohoo, hopefully a good investment and no more mysterious chemicals in my rice except for the arsenic :$ [Search Consumer reports Arsenic in rice products] So if you don't know already, cooking rice on this cooker is different than cooking rice on a regular cooker. There is more work and time involved, you have to put water in the inner pot with the rice and then water on the outer pot (make sure you don't put the inner pot lid on while it cooks). The process of it cooking take 15 minutes longer than my bomb ass old rice cooker and for some reason the outer lid rattles when it starts steaming, uhoh mechanical defect. But the coolest part about this process is the rice doesn't stick, ya coooooollll! Of course rice is still sticky and cleaning stainless steel is more tedious than cleaning a Teflon pot but it's not like there is a thick layer of rice stuck or a need for a scrub brush, just let it soak. But not only do you have to clean the inner pot but the outer pot as well. To keep it as clean as possible I use distilled water when cooking with the outer pot then I clean the inside of the outer pot as best I can without submerging it in water, dang this would be easier with a retractable cord, hint hint. Lastly if you don't want water marks you need to wipe the excess water, true for any stainless steel cookware. All in all I'm happy about the stainless steel, I will revise if this ever breaks down on me as some reviews warn. Update 2025: Still going strong after 13 years of use. Read more
Tatung is the best rice cooker. Simple to use. The brand has reputation of almost 100 years in Taiwan. My grandparents and parents' generations down to us all have used Tatung rice cooker to make a lot of Taiwanese recipes. It's a reliable brand. But you have to carefully follow the cleaning instructions. Otherwise the lifespan may be shortened. Read more
