This backpack is the perfect size for your preschool, kindergarten child. It has a sturdy nylon construction and heavy duty, easy to slide zippers. The shoulders are padded for comfort, and I especially like that it includes a chest clip for added ergonomics. Inside the main compartment there is a divider for a tablet? The divider/sleeve itself is not padded so it would work better to separate homework assignments or some other organization in my opinion. The sides have 2 mesh pockets for a water bottle. I do wish these were a little sturdier as well, however I am sure they will be fine for water bottles. The front zipper compartment is large enough to keep pencils or smaller items separate so they don’t get lost in the large main compartment. There is also an included spot to write your child’s name in if you prefer so the bag does not get lost/misplaced. If you look at my photo above, it has spots for additional names to pass the bag on - I do think it’s constructed well enough to do this! The water bottle pockets are potentially its “weakest link.” Hoping they hold up over time! Overall, I highly recommend, but 2 spots of improvement would be a padded sleeve (since so many kids have tablets these days) and the side mesh pockets being reinforced. We've been using this backpack primarily for our 4 year old daughter's dance classes. The size is great for carrying shoes, a change of clothes, some snacks, a water bottle and a small stuffed animal or book. Good quality stitching, smooth zippers, and she loves the colors. It's the perfect size for her to wear comfortably, especially because of the adjustable chest strap. Like the description notes, it is too small to hold a standard size folder so it may not be the best option for school. Read more

Edited review from April 2025: After having my 4 y.o. use this for the past couple of. months, I can attest to this being the perfect small-sized backpack for preschoolers & kindergarteners. It is very sturdy with thick outer materials. The overall design is great - small & flat front pocket, good sized & stretchable water bottle side pockets, and pretty comfortable chest clips. It also has a pretty decent sized back part (I don't think it would fit folders or any homework that couldn't be folded). The inside is waterproof (I think), but we have not had any massive water or juice spills yet so I can't speak to that. The zippers are also large & easy for little hands/fingers to maneuver. It's size is wide enough for ages 3-5 or so. The front of the backpack leaves plenty of room for any iron-on patches/sewed on patches for easy customization. The color is also perfectly bright & stands out nicely. If it gets dirty it seems easy enough to put it in the washing machine & leaving it to hang dry. I can see this lasting for plenty of years to come.
