The large fit more like a normal large size fits on my 11-year-old who's average height/weight. I also got the XL to see the size comparison and the XL are just a little longer past his knees he could still wear them but I'll have him wear the larges for a while and then switch into those XL. I bought a couple pairs blue and black in both sizes. He likes the texture of them they are nice and soft silky, good for running around playing soccer and just everyday going to school.
