I've watched this before, but I wanted to buy it. The friendship between Charlotte and Alice is absolutely beautiful. They come from two different worlds, but have maintained their bond. There are a couple of plot twists and the viewer may even shed some tears. Tyler Perry and the cast did a great job. Read more
I know a lot of folks complain about Tyler Perry and Madea. This is a good movie, and Madea is nowhere to be found. A lady (Alfre Woodard) owns a diner. She has 2 daughters. 1 is down to earth, loves her mother, cherishes her husband. The other is arrogant, disdainful of her mother, and ready to marry a man she doesn't love. The mother is a long tie friend of a rich lady (Kathy Bates) who is letting Alfre's daughter get married on her estate. Kathy has a scheming son, who has no respect for his mother, his marriage, or his mother's business. Alfre is good to everyone, even the homeless street guy. The newly married daughter (Sanaa Latham) is disgusted with her family and new husband. This husband has a dream of opening his own business. He asks his wife to get him an interview with her boss. She makes excuses, and finally outright refuses. It is revealed she is having an affair with her boss. Her sister (Taraji Henson) is angry that her sister is so selfish to everyone and disrespectful to their mother. During a business decision, Kathy decides to hire an outsider, passing over her son. The son is furious, and swears to get even. Kathy asks Alfre to go on a road trip with her. After Kathy refuted all Alfre's excuses, a date is set. Santa's husband discovers a private bank account in his wife's name. The new hire learns about Sanaa's affair at a company party. The boss's wife found out that same night. Kathy and Alfre go on the trip. The 2 ladies are polar opposites, so the trip has its ups and downs. A late night confession cuts the trip short. The ladies get home to chaos. Kathy's daughter-in-law confesses her husband's treachery. Sanaa's husband learns of his wife's unfaithfulness. The climax comes with discovery, and a little violence. This was an excellent movie. Taraji has been in other Perry movies, but this one is my favorite. HPB, you've done it again! They say their discs are used. I have not found one yet to give me any trouble. And you can't beat their prices. Tyler Perry without Madea...that's okay with me, if he keeps on bringing great stories like this. The sweetest thing is that this is captioned. Read more
I love Tyler Perry's movies. He introduced to me the life of black people... the sad moments, the success stories, the betrayal, the discipline of kids, etc... if I really think about it, asides from the history of Black Americans, the family dynamic, relationships, work... all are very similar regardless of the color of your skin. What I love about this movie is the friendship of a wealthy, generous, caring and skin-colorblind white lady and a hardworking black lady who runs a diner to care for her family. I also love the way this black lady cares for this homeless white man who lost his job, wife and kids. When someone treats you well, return the kindness is the greatest gift of all - which is a lesson of this lady with the diner taught her daughter. It captured that people are people, regardless of the color of our skin. Life is about give and take, and don't judge someone for you might perceive of them until you know the story behind that person. We can all build beautiful, trusting, and caring and loving relationship regardless of skin color and culture. In order for any relationship to work, it takes both parties to equally invest into the relationship with an open heart. This movie also captures success requires hard work and the support of your love ones. Yes, sometimes there are challenges to get kick-started, but persistent, hard work and having integrity, it is possible and this is what is great about this country, American has so many opportunities. Sometimes it seems impossible, but being determined and believing in yourself will help a lot. Being extremely wealthy is great, but the best part of being wealthy is being able to help others and to share the wealth. I have watched many Tyler Perry's movies. Madea series are my favorite because I love how Madea doesn't hesitate in disciplining the kids who would turn out to be good and successful adults. This is the most important part of parenting that seems to be lacking in the younger generations today. Of all of Perry's movies, this movie is by far my favorite. It captures so much love between a beautiful friendship of 2 people of different class and race. Anyone who has a friendship like the one captured in this movie is SO blessed. I hope one day, I'll have one like this one. Read more
