Iβve got both movies in the series now, but the first one is still my favorite. The chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson is just perfect, action, comedy, and chaos all rolled into one. Itβs one of those movies I can throw on anytime and still enjoy it like the first watch. Fun plot, great pacing, and a ton of rewatch value. Definitely one Iβm glad to have in my collection. Read more

You can pretty much tell exactly what's going to happen in the film after the first 15 minutes. It's your typical Lethal Weapon style two guys who hate each other who end up forming a bond. Just to make sure it's not a sausage-fest they throw in a lot of extraneous female characters. There's no playing against type with the leads - Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson play their standard movie personas. Gary Oldman and Salma Hayek are very underused. You could take Salma Hayek out of the film and it would make no difference because she does nothing. The comedy is irritating in places, the action more than makes up for it. Overall it's good but your pulse will barely change because there are zero surprises. Read more

The Hitmanβs Bodyguard is a wildly entertaining mix of action and comedy, with Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson delivering nonstop laughs and chaos. Their chemistry is perfect β every scene feels sharp, funny, and fast-paced. The action sequences are well-shot and exciting without taking themselves too seriously. The Blu-ray quality is excellent, with clear visuals and great sound that really brings the movieβs energy to life. If you enjoy buddy comedies with over-the-top action and great banter, this oneβs a must-have for your collection. Read more

If you know Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson, then you know what this movie is going to be (snarky, bloody, SLJ's favorite phrase said frequently, full of action) and it will not disappoint you. If you're looking for thick plot, you're in the wrong room. If you object to foul language, you're in the wrong room. If you want to be thoroughly entertained for a while and don't mind some a barrage of f-bombs and some bloody action, you've come to the right place. I'm not generally a big fan of violent movies but this one didn't hit my violence-nerve the way many do. This was more like Kill Bill, which was ferociously bloody but somehow didn't feel that way because it was kind of cartoony. This movie isn't at all cartoony in that visual sense but it definitely does not take itself seriously and that's what took the edge off the bloodshed for me. I was fully entertained and was generally delighted by Reynolds' signature snark. The chemistry between his character and Jackson's was delightful. Another reviewer said the foul language from Salma Hayek's character seemed unnatural and I agree, though it wasn't a deal-breaker for me. Overall, this movie was exactly what I expected it to be based on the title, blurb, and cast and it kept me entertained from start to finish. What more could I ask? Read more

It's the incredible but violent action scenes that save THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD. The story is seriously predictable and there are few surprises here. Things move along just as expected. Even a great actor like Samuel L. Jackson can save this film though he does a great job. Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) is a professional bodyguard on rough times. Darius Kincaid is a notorious hitman locked up for life. Kincaid is offered a deal to release his wife Sonia (Salma Hayek) from prison if he agrees to testify against a war criminal Vladislav Dukhovich (Gary Oldman) in a war crimes tribunal. Of course, the problems begin immediately. Kincaid is the only person in the world whose testimony will convict Dukhovich. Otherwise, Dukhovich goes free. It's a race against time as Bryce must get Kincaid to the Netherlands from England. The body count along the way is enormous, yet they barely get a scratch. Yes, the chase and fight scenes are incredible but it's the story here that is lacking. It's a predictable story as Bryce and Kincaid bond. Kincaid is not really that evil of a hitman since he only kills bad guys. Have we seen this all before? It seems like so much money is spent on visual effects--fight scenes and car chases - that nothing is left for the writers to create a more believable story Read more
