Nothin’s Gonna Stop Me Now!

Love this movie. It’s dark and sad, but happy and fun! There is one scene that makes the whole movie for me. Nader and Wiig have the best chemistry and comedic timing. Read more

Excellent Seriocomedy

Maybe twenty minutes or so into this film I was ready to dismiss this film because the title characters were so unsympathetic. Milo (Bill Hader) is a gay unemployed actor. Maggie (Kristen Wiig) is an unhappily married dental hygienist. These twin siblings share depressiveness and self absorption. The feelings of others are subordinate to their own. At some point in the film it dawns on you that the twins aren't meant to be liked but to be empathized with. Despite their personalities we do root for them to find some kind of peace with themselves. Most people aren't as selfishly extreme as Milo and Maggie but to some extent we are all flawed. "The Skeleton Twins" is an intricately drawn character study with superlative performances from not only Hader and Wiig but also Luke Wilson as Maggie's long suffering husband and Ty Burrell as Milo's high school teacher. In the Seventies this kind of edgy filmmaking was the norm and we should applaud this kind of risk taking. This indie has resonance and ranks as one of the best films of 2014. Read more

Movie was Ok.

Only watched this movie because it was storming outside. It was ok. Not sure I would watch it again. If you like movies about broken people then this is for you. Read more

Watchable and captures your attention

Slow start, but after that, I think it was a pretty good movie. They found the right cast to play the characters, if not for t hem, the movie would have been a bust but thankfully it wasn't a bust. I love Bill Hader. One of my favorite actors and I have yet to find a film of his that I haven't liked. Read more

One Of My All-Time Favorite Movies--Really!

One of my all-time favorite movies! Emotionally powerful, yet funny and enjoyable--the perfect balance. Milo and Maggie, an estranged brother and sister, start to reconnect after each has a failed suicide attempt. As they start to rediscover each other, they also start to rediscover the causes of their estrangement--layer after layer is peeled away until the awful truth is revealed--and it's not over yet! Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig have the perfect chemistry to pull off these complex interacting roles. My favorite scene is where Milo tries to cheer up Maggie by drawing her into a lip-synch of "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us" by Starship. It's priceless. Read more

Not a comedy - great movie

This may not be a movie for everyone, but I found an uplifting story about family members supporting each other. Bill Hader and Kristin Wiig have great chemistry. I have (adult, fraternal) twins and my twins' relationship is amazing. They get it right in this movie. I'd love to see more of the outtakes that landed on the cutting room floor. The lip-sync scene is unbelievable (about 50 minutes into the movie) - funny, warm, a joy to watch. I have watched it more times than I can count! Read more

Dark and depressing, not my idea of a romantic comedy

The box said it's funny but I only laughed when I threw the cassette into the Goodwill donation box. Dark undertones throughout the movie, along with the depressing greenish-blue ambience that often comes with a menacing movie story. Unconvincing performance by the male lead. The script was a total waste of the highly talented Kristen Wiig. I wasn't expecting the riotous hilarity of some other movies in which she stars, but the script and storyline of this show should have had her looking for something better. Her natural talent for being funny on camera, while trying to *not* be funny, was not used to any advantage here. Read more
