I normally wear a size 42 or 44 coat, depending on how snug I want it to fit. Usually, the sleeves are a bit longer on 44 coats, but fit well through the chest and shoulders. Having said that, I own three pirate frock coats from Pirate Dressing (also known as Tudor Dressing; same company) and they are all size large. The sleeves are extremely long on me, and the coat is cut rather full all the way down from chest to hem. The coats are fine craftsmanship, but very roomy on me, and really in need of some tailoring to take in the length. A long winded way to say that the coats seem to run a bit larger than an average suit or overcoat. I really like the color of this chocolate and black trim frock coat, and decided to take a chance and buy the "small/medium" size. Usually, if the word "small" is included, that means it's not going to fit across my shoulders at all. However, I'm excited to report that this size fits me perfectly! It really it cut like a size 42 sport coat. The sleeves hit just right on my wrists, and the shoulders/chest are big enough to allow comfort while moving; by the way, cut seems to actually be tapered at the waist, much more so than the size large coats. The quality, as mentioned by other reviewers, is top-notch! The velvet fabric is thick and comfortable (not stiff and thin like some coats I bought from China) and the braiding/embroidery is sewn very neatly. As for the shipping time, they were especially fast for this purchase! The coat is manufactured in, and shipped from, India. It traveled form India to southwest Ohio, USA in only 3 days, and tracking through FedEx was provided! Got my coat in today, and it is much higher quality than i expected, especially for the price. I thought it would be thin material or of lesser quality and was surprised at the quality. Coat is thick and durable. Very comfortable, heavier thicker material so i know its going to last. Fits great and looks like a coat that would cost $300-$400 at the Ren Festival. I added a pair of boots, a pirate hat (dreads optional), a toy musket pistol, a pirate/Santa costume belt (all purchased on Amazon), a medieval black shirt (the front is low--you may or may not want a shirt underneath) and a pair of polyester sweatpants to this jacket and received rave reviews on my costume! (If you don't have boots you'd like with this, costume sellers on Amazon have vinyl leggings that make black shoes look like fancy boots (for example: Pirate Boot Tops Costume Accessory ). The jacket is very nice and looks as good as the picture. The material is velour-like. It's not an inexpensive jacket, but it's also not a cheap one! I'm 6'6" and about 250 with 37 inch sleeve length. The Jacket in XXL fits perfectly. Quality is actually very good - for a costume / fun item, it's actually pretty nice. I bought this and a white shirt / black 'pirate pants' and a waste scarf. Needed a pirates outfit for a themed party and this was definitely the look I wanted. My son liked it so much he wants to wear it to work just for fun. Highly recommend for that 'formal pirate outfit' that is needed at a party or gathering. Frankly, I might wear it to a non-themed party just to be different. If you are on the fence about the product - buy it. The Paisley really sets the costume off when compared to the Jack Sparrow look everyone else was wearing. BTW: This one was made in India. Read more
This is a wonderful jacket, absolutely stellar and makes you feel proper like a pirate and can go with any 1700s wardrobe. However do know that the "Wine-Red" is really wine-red. I got the "Wine" red with straight lace, the bottom option and when it came in its really a dark dark red not as the pictures bright "red-coat" red which threw me off, but im still giving a 5 star review because the quality as a product is fantastic and for me I am still able to make my outfit work. This coat is beautiful and made very well. It is slightly heavy in weight. It fit well in the arms and back but the front is small. Plus, their are no button holes to actually close the coat, so expect to gave to buy a ruffled shirt to wear under it. Read more
We expected this coat to be your standard costume quality but thankfully it was better than expected, especially because of the price! My boy friend and I think this coat is amazing and if you want to look like a fancy pirate please order this coat. He went as a pirate to my friend's wedding, as a joke, but he looked amazing and everyone loved it. We also ordered a shirt from this company and it too was of really good quality.
