This heater is impressive right out of the box. It’s much larger than I expected, and once it’s set up, you can tell it’s solid and well-made. Like most heaters without a blower, you do need to be relatively close to it to feel the warmth, but because of its size and output, it easily keeps several people comfortable when gathered nearby. It’s ideal for patios, backyards, or outdoor seating areas where people tend to stay in one place. The setup was straightforward, and everything feels sturdy once assembled. It does come with a remote, although honestly, you don’t really need it since the controls are easy to access. My only minor complaint is that the remote didn’t include a battery, which would have been a nice touch. That said, performance-wise, this heater does exactly what it’s supposed to do and does it well. If you’re looking for a strong, reliable outdoor heat source that can handle cooler evenings, this one definitely delivers. Read more

I sometimes have to work in my uninsulated (but enclosed) garage. I’ve tried traditional heaters in the past, and they work OK, but when they have to heat the air (and it's really cold outside), they take forever to make the garage useable. I’d been told to try infrared heating, so I decided to give this a shot. First of all, you have to understand that this kind of heater heats objects and, far less so, the air in the area. So it’s very different from one that actually heats the air, and you somewhat have to change the way you think about setting this up. For me, if I’m working at my workbench in the winter, I prefer to put this either at my back, or to my side. In this way, the radiant heat warms me directly. In this it does an excellent job. The other benefit is that if I get too hot, I can step away, outside of its range for a minute or two and cool down a bit. I’ve tried this on a couple of very cold days now (temperatures well below 15 degrees Fahrenheit) and it’s worked reasonably well. I also like that I can adjust the height based on the height I’m working (standing versus closer to the floor). There are really only 2 things that I don’t care for about this. The first is that the tripod doesn’t seem all that sturdy. If you’re careful, there won’t be a problem, and it says in place just fine. I sometimes, however, worry about bumping into it (which I’ve already done a couple of times) and tipping it over. I feel like the base could have been made just a bit wider. The second thing is that it pulls 1500 watts on full power. While this does indeed put out plenty of heat, that’s a lot of power to just heat the immediate area. I won’t use this frequently enough to matter, but depending upon the space you which to heat, and your specific use case, this may not be the best solution. Overall, I am pretty pleased with this. It’s done what I needed it to do, and it’s done so well. I’m kicking around mounting it under the gazebo roof on my deck, where I might be able to make better use of it in early spring and into late fall. The important thing is to understand how it heats and what you need it to do. I can see this working well for some and not so well for others if you only see it as a heater and not specifically how it works. Read more
You have to be very close to the heater to get warmer. Not very happy about it Read more
Overall, this product falls into the category of "effective heating, easy to use, but with limitations in usage scenarios." Let's start with the advantages. The heating speed is genuinely fast; you can feel the heat immediately upon turning it on, unlike traditional heaters that require a long warm-up time. The infrared heat directly targets people and objects, making it very effective in open or semi-open spaces like patios, backyards, and porches. The 1500W power is quite sufficient compared to similar products, and its ability to concentrate heat in a small area is excellent, making it perfectly fine for chatting or eating while sitting directly in front of it. The tripod design is also very practical, with adjustable height and flexible placement, eliminating the need for additional drilling or installation, which is especially convenient for renters or those needing temporary use. The remote control and timer function are added bonuses, making it very convenient when you don't want to get up. The IP65 waterproof rating also provides peace of mind for outdoor use. Now for the drawbacks. First, this type of infrared heating is "directional heating," meaning that the perceived temperature drops significantly when you move away from the direct front or in windy conditions. It's not suitable if you expect it to heat the entire yard. Second, although the tripod is stable, it's still recommended to place it in a relatively sheltered location in windy environments. Third, the bright orange heating lamp is quite noticeable at night, and those sensitive to light may need some time to adjust. Read more
I’ve been using this ThermoMate infrared patio heater on my backyard patio for a few weeks now, and it has performed very well. The 1500W heating power is more than enough to keep a small gathering area warm, even on chilly evenings. The infrared heat feels comfortable and direct, warming people rather than just the air, which makes a noticeable difference outdoors. The tripod base is sturdy and easy to adjust, and once set up, the heater feels stable and secure. I really like the three heat levels, which make it easy to adjust based on the weather. The remote control is responsive and convenient, especially when you don’t want to walk over to the unit to make changes. The 24-hour timer is another nice touch and adds peace of mind. Build quality feels solid, and the IP65 waterproof rating gives confidence using it outside, even in light rain. It’s also quieter than expected, with no distracting fan noise. Read more
