Excellent hat, lots of subtle features make it a great practical hat: 1. Attachment string (under your chin) works excellently! You can adjust without re-tying the knot (the section with the knot should be inside the hat, so under your chin is just the soft string). So, without needing to tie it, you can adjust to be tighter (high wind) or looser just by pulling the string through the grommets on the side. Once you have it on, you can tighten (or loosen) by just tugging on the string at the sides without taking the hat off. If you don’t need the string under your chin (sunny day, no wind), you can just toss the string into the hat and it is out of the way. 2. Nice little Velcro storage compartment in the top (I have used for keys, money, etc, when hiking or wading) 3. Grommets in top allow air circulation (not a lot, but enough to work well). 4. Snaps on side to fold up either or both sides (OK, I admit I have never wanted to do this :). 5. Durable - tolerates folding and smashing. Yet made from a very nice heavy material. I received my new Tilley T3 Standard Cotton Classic hat today, 09-06-23, and I'm going to start this review right off the bat by saying I love it! It's a beautiful, size 7 1/8, Olive Green hat with quality exuding from every angle! Wow, it's a 'Real Duesy'... my best hat ever. The only problem is it's about 1 size TOO Big for my 22 1/4 inch head (I measured myself 4 times using a vinyl tape measure). According to Tilley's Hat Size Conversion Table, size 7 1/8 was the best fit for my head. I could have returned the hat and exchanged it for a size 7 but I wasn't so sure that size wouldn't be TOO Small. So I decided to SHRINK the hat myself. Here is how I proceeded... I filled the kitchen sink to about 4 inches with the hottest tap water available and soaked it for about an hour. I then put it in the clothes dryer, dripping wet, for about 2 hours on the hottest temperature setting possible. My hat now Fits Perfectly and I see no damage as a result of the shrinking process. I must have ordered the wrong size and called the company directly to ask about how to do an exchange to a different size. Bruce (Holland Hats) spent almost 10 minutes making sure I got what I wanted in the size (I needed a 7 1/2) and color I was looking for. Very considerate and understanding! He sent me the new hat expedited (at no extra cost to me) and it arrived in 2 days! Right size and color. This is a quality hat and a nice looking hat. Nice stitching and the hat holds its shape very nicely. It has decent air flow and plenty of protection against the sun without having ridiculously wide brims. It also has a pocket in the top of the hat for storing an ID or credit card. On the inside, it also has instructions for machine washing and air drying. It has a string for putting under the chin in windy conditions and is easy to remove (and store in the pocket) if you don't want it "hanging around". Quality for the money. The T3 is still made in Canada. Got this for kayaking & small hikes we take. I was stressed about getting the right size. I was actually between sizes. Tilley rep was very helpful and said to go up to the higher size. Fit perfect. Trust the way they tell you to measure yourself. Tape should not be really tight around your head. Loose but not so loose to fall down on your ears. I can tell this hat will last many years. Read more
