Made in China - not in Canada. Still has the classic Tilley secret pocket in the crown.

NateNovember 19, 2025

Its made in China. I think people should know where they are getting thier stuff. The hat is solid, and I like it, that doesn't change. The quality seems good. Stiching is proper, its very comfortable. It was designed in Canada and outsourced, so do what you will with that. I'm simply rating the quality of the hat, and it seems pretty top-notch at the 50$ price point, no higher. Breathes well, stays put. Its a good hat. Summertime at the creek hat. Has the proper pocket. If you care, don't buy it. If you're like me, grab it up. Function is function. Quality is Quality. No red flags here. Read more

Great hat!

Kindle CustomerAugust 5, 2025

Love this hat!! Light weight. It is wide enough to keep the sun off of my head and neck with sides down. The sides can be snapped up if I want a little more sun and a “cowboy” look. It’s not waterproof, but keeps me reasonably dry in a light rain. The option to pull down the strap inside the hat is good on a windy day. Only downside (1/2 point deduction) is that it doesn’t ventilate so well, so on days with blistering heat, I need to take it off every once in a while to cool down. Still worth the price. Read more

Great All Round Hat

J-SutSeptember 18, 2019

I really love this hat. When I started looking, I wanted a hat that had a good brim that didn't sag into your eyes, that would travel well (look good after being stuff into a backpack) and be suitable for a variety of occasions. The T3 meets all of these things. The brim bounces back into shape even if the hat has been crushed in a backpack (while I've been biking and wearing a helmet). It's great for most occasions that you need a hat. It gives good sun protection, keeps the sun out of your eyes and protects your neck as well. Also, it fits just like it is supposed. Most of the time I wear it with the neck and wind cords tucked into the pocket, but I've used the wind cords to be safe in blustery conditions. To be honest, the hat felt super locked in and it never became uncomfortable when I used it for 7 hour period. Overall, the hat has to be able to used and it fits the bill from going to my kids sports, to wearing it at picnics/BBQs, to going hiking. The cherry on top is that my partner thinks the hat looks great on me! Read more

Nice casual hat, but sizing and QC can be a challenge

WordfoolApril 23, 2023

For a "silly Tilley" hat, this is perhaps one of the more casual, less "silly" looking options. Cotton canvas is fairly thick, but not super tightly woven and I generally don't find cotton hats any hotter than thinner synthetic options in the summer but YMMV. The enzyme washing process gives it a more relaxed, unstructured look than the regular T3, and the black hardware also looks far better than the bright brass of the regular T3. Yes, you could age a regular T3 to look similar, but it would require many washes to soften the structure the same way and that shiny brass hardware would take years to dull down. The problem with the enzyme washing, however, is that it seems to play havoc with the sizing. I ordered three hats -- two in 7 1/2 (Amazon wouldn't do a price adjustment after the price fell 20% overnight after my purchase so I returned one right away) and one in 7 3/8, which is my actual hat size, based on head measurement of 23". One of the 7.5 hats fit the way Tilley suggests it should -- ie. fairly loose with an ability to fit two fingers between hat and forehead after a slight pull on the front of the hat. The other 7.5 hat had clearly had more washing done to it because it looked far more faded and as a result it was like a vice clamp on my head -- far too small. The 7 3/8 hat fit a bit snug at first but soon stretched enough to loosen it to comfortably snug, which IMO is how a hat like this should fit -- not so loose it falls off your head when you lean forward, but not so tight that you feel it all the time. In that sense I disagree with Tilley's hat sizing advice. There's nothing worse than a hat that's too loose, sits low, and tends to fall off without using the straps. Beyond the apparent gamble on sizing that this pre-washed version of the hat seems to entail, I also was not overly impressed with the quality control. Crown height varied between hats by up to a half inch (one hat had a crown height that was 4" at the front and 3.5" at the back), brim width varied between all three hats by about a quarter inch (one hat had clearly unequal side-brim widths), and eyelet spacing was also a bit haphazard with each hat having at least one eyelet a bit out of alignment with the others. Overall not a huge deal I suppose, but it just adds to the feeling that you really need to buy multiples of the same hat to find one that fits properly and is put together well. Read more

Made in CA or outsourced, it's still a high quality product with a lifetime warranty.

C ChocholekOctober 27, 2024

I own a few Tilly hats. The oldest was made in Canada, the newest in China. However, the quality is spot on with each of them. Without reading the label, I highly doubt that anyone could differentiate where the hats were produced. I've read dozens of reviews where people are primarily focused on where their hat was produced, rather than the actual quality of the product. For the most part, those same reviews also reflect negative opinions as to the cost of a Tilly hat now that they are produced overseas. "The value of anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay." That being said, I don't mind spending $75 - $125 for a quality hat that's going to last a lifetime. Sure beats spending $25 - $50 on a hat that lasts a season or two at best. Try tossing a cheap hat into the laundry several times a year. I'm pretty certain you'd never wear it again after the first wash. Tilly hats don't shrink and their vents don't rust when washed. You get what you pay for. Read more
