Works better than a basic unit I bought from a brick and mortar store, which ran so hot I thought it was going to melt. I returned that unit and purchased the TobenONE docking station based on the reviews and the fact it had a separate power supply. The unit works perfectly with the exception of one issue, which I don't use anyway, and didn't feel it detected for what I use it for. I can connect 3 external monitors to it, as well as connect several usb-c devices, usually for charging mobile devices, without any issues. I only need to run my external monitors at FHD (1080p) and this works beautifully. What is the one issue you ask? This unit will not power my laptop through the thunderbolt port and display the external monitors. I even tried unplugging all the monitors and just try to power the laptop through the thunderbolt port, and the display just wigs out and flashes and blinks on and off. It isn't something I care about because if I go mobile with my laptop, I don't need external displays to use or the docking unit, so I just have my laptop power supply. Otherwise, I love the docking station and it works perfectly for my needs. It's well built, and doesn't get overly hot. If I need a higher resolution external monitor in the future and have any problems, I'll update my review. Read more

I wanted to hop on and talk about the customer service. We buy more than a few of these as we use them with our Alienware installations here at my corporate HQ. From a usability standpoint they work very well. We have a lot of Autocad/Revit work and their ability to support multiple displays with that kind of data throughput is necessary and our users love them. What I love is the support. We recently had a dock where the network port failed. Of course, this is huge because, considering the large amounts of data being moved, a working physical network jack is necessary for the day to day work. Anita at Tobenone responded quickly, provided excellent troubleshooting options and then ultimately provided a new dock WITHOUT the need to return the other. THAT, folks, is customer service! Something that is sorely lacking in this day and age but not lacking at Tobenone! Their product is fantastic, sturdy and reliable.
