Rich in Color, But Overall, It’s Too Soft and Just Small, Including the Rim, Which is Floppy

What am I reviewing? Tommy Hilfiger Men's Bucket Hat, in [Claimed] Extra Large size. How as this received? This was received in a non-branded, flimsy, tape sealed clear plastic bag, the kind that clothes typically arrive in. What’s inside the bag? Inside is the hat, of course, but also there was a 6” x 3” [that’s small] Micro-Pak Enhanced PE Sheet. Micro-Pak what? A Micro-Pak Enhanced PE Sheet is intended to [control] [inhibit] [mitigate] [odor causing bacteria,] mold and mildew on products enclosed in packaging intended for shipment. Hmm, interesting. PE sheets are supposed to eliminate mold spore growth as soon as relative humidity begins to near unsafe levels. This unique humidity-based activation ensures the hat is protected from the threat of mold growth for extended periods of time. What does that mean to me? When placed inside the plastic bag, like others have had, it’s Attention to detail! I do like this was within. Such, to me, shows attention to quality control, and is not show an effort at cutting corners in appearance to me. [It was not branded, as I have seen with others, but at least it was there, though small.] Measurements and such The package measured about 10” wide by 11” tall, and capable to expand at least 2” – the themed cotton canvas like hat was inside. Size of brim? Small, at under (2”) – about (1.875”). I was looking for at least (3”), there is small chance the wind is going to material catch that small brim and cause the hat to fly off, further, very limited shading of my face. Made of? The hat is made of a somewhat heavy, but not very thick canvas like (100%) cotton, which, in this instance, does not equate to being a very weighty hat. Weight of hat? The hat weighed in at about (94) grams, which is just under (3½) ounces, which is average at most but about (60%) of the weight of a recent competitive purchase. The weight corroborates this hat as being small in my view. Finish? Perfect, not a thread out of place. Fit? Too tight, headache causing too tight. Size? I ordered extra-large, but, for me, this is smaller and tighter than an extra-large – giving me a headache; I think the hat clearly smaller than that competing non-themed hat I have. Theme? Does this have a theme? Yes, Tommy Hilfiger. Is this a brand-named hat? Yes. Tommy Hilfiger. It is a brand I am familiar with. I do gravitate to branded goods, so, it’s still a positive, for me. Are there air vents? Yes, but just four (4) grommet style vents. However, they do offer some circulation, which is to help keep me cooler and cause excessive perspiration. Adjustable? No. There is limited stretch, very limited. Care? A label inside the hat refers me to a telephone number? Value? Based on the totality, I found reasonable value – it was almost ( ½ ) the tagged value. Looks? Excellent. Quality? Excellent. Sun protection? For the top scalp, excellent, for the face, not so much, the brim is under (2”). Comfort? Too tight? Size? Smaller than expected. Warmth? Hmm, this is not a winter hat, it’s a summer hat. There are only four (4) air holes, and they are small. Fairly listed? For the most part, however, the photo made this look more like a fedora, i.e., with a firm brim, however, it’s not, it’s a very floppy brim. Rating? Based on the above, it’s five (5) stars in looks and value, but two (2) stars for being small, light, and tight. In my eyes, it’s three (3) stars at best. What good is a hat that does not function like it looked – i.e., a fedora and is too tight. This is for smaller heads, not larger. I hope my thoughts offered a wee bit of information. Read more
