I was uncertain how a weighted vest would work for my kiddo but HE LOVES IT! My kiddo has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (his body doesn’t build muscle or create the protein that repairs muscle) so adding weight to his body can be stressful. Yet the fit, the size and quality all worked out perfectly. He has worn this vest for two full days and in-between he takes a break. He LOVES how it makes him feel…calmer and like he’s being hugged. He wears a compression vest practically 24/7 now (except when he sleeps) so when we added his new weighted vest—he felt extra comfort. I’d been sitting on the fence about making this purchase yet I’m very pleased I did! It’s well worth the price for the comfort my kiddo experiences with his severe sensory processed disorder. Perfect weight and size for a six-year-old boy just beginning the diagnosis process. As a former special education educator who began working with children with autistic-like tendencies in the Baltimore City Public Schools in the late 1980s and at Linwood Children's Center (the first residential school in the country for children with autism in Ellicott City, Maryland), I've used weighted vests with students since the 1988/1989 school year with GREAT SUCCESS. Today, I recommend them for a wide variety of uses for both children and adults for a wide array of reasons and various settings. Outstanding Tactile-Friendly Material Selection With a young tactile-sensitive child, the neoprene material proved a pleasure for him to touch and stroke. The mesh panels appear to keep him cool even with neoprene construction. Remarkably, the Velcro closures not only stay secure but their noise doesn't agitate him like other similar closures do, even Velcro tennis shoes overstimulate him normally. Successful Gradual Introduction Strategy He is being weaned into wearing it with self-determined time lengths. His first session lasted about two minutes, with his second about an hour later extending to 15 minutes. This child-led pacing demonstrates the vest's non-threatening acceptance despite being a very new and foreign object. Addressing Specific Behavioral Challenges He loves giving hugs and has had issues in school trying to hug classmates and certain teachers. So far, the vest is helping as expected with this impulse control challenges of hugging and touching others. Currently worn at home, the eventual goal is transferring to school wear as comfort increases. Ideal Weight Distribution with Growth Considerations The 2lbs via six bags work well, and he wanted all compartments filled immediately. The weight feels very balanced and natural. We may need to add more weight as he grows more comfortable with the vest, suggesting the need for expansion options. The multiple shoulder and side Velcro closures allow a child a variety of ways to put the vest on: over the head, front-to-back, or back-to-front, or even left or right-side slip on with one arm/side closed while the other side is fastened after putting on the vest. Remarkable Self-Regulation Development Wearing the vest appears to calm and focus this young child. He has even begun asking for the vest as he appears to escalate and get agitated, this self-regulation is wonderful as many of his "triggers" are still unknown or unrecognizable. This autonomous coping skill development represents significant progress. Daily Integration and Maintenance Success We are washing the vest nightly while he sleeps so he can have it first thing in the morning when he asks for it. It works well both under and over clothing, though he currently prefers wearing it instead of a shirt, indicating strong sensory acceptance. Size Limitation Considerations The vest is slightly short on his torso. If a larger size were available, we would have selected it instead. We may explore athletic-designed weight vests when he outgrows this one or when needing a second vest for simultaneous home and school use. Professional Recommendations for Product Enhancement One suggestion: provide additional weights in various increments so perfect weight ratios can be created for every child. Though not necessary for this current child, I would also suggest more secure fastening systems preventing certain children from removing and throwing weight bags. I appreciate that weight bags are small with openings against the body for reduced access, but additional security could benefit given circumstances. Bottom Line This vest successfully introduces weighted sensory input while fostering remarkable self-regulation development in a tactile-sensitive child. The professional-grade results justify confidence for families beginning similar journeys. Perfect for: Children beginning sensory diagnosis processes, tactile-sensitive children, gradual vest introduction, home-based initial training Best features: Tactile-friendly neoprene, non-agitating Velcro, balanced weight distribution with weight sizes indicated on each individual bag, promotes autonomous self-regulation. Professional recommendations: Offer supplemental weight options for customization, consider enhanced security for weight bag retention in certain cases. Expert perspective: Delivers results matching professional classroom applications from over three decades of special education experience and continued educational consultation. Read more

I have a 3 year old autistic daughter. Shes has used a non-weighted compression vest in the past and loved it, so I got this product to try something similar and new. Overall she didn't like it. Perhaps I had too much weight on it. While it is adjustable, I dont like how they made the weight pockets. In the front there is a left and right, with only two big weights. You either have to take both out or nothing at all, or it will be lopsided weight. The back is better because you can distribute the weight better with 4 pockets. This could be a nice product for some people, but wish they designed the pockets better. Overall it seems to be made well. Read more

This weighted vest is great for my autistic son, it provides all of his sensory needs. The quality is very good and it fits relatively well. It was slightly loose but in due time it’ll fit him perfectly. The material is comfortable and it washes well. It provides the right amount of pressure against my son’s body and he is much calmer overall with it on. It helps a lot of your child is struggling with sensory needs. The straps adjust well around the body and it’s easy to make it bigger or smaller depending on what you need. It’s heavy and provides a good amount of support. Read more

I got this for my 4 year old autistic/adhd daughter. Pros: - It fits correctly, true to size and adjustable with velcro straps along the sides and along the top to grow with her as she ages - It actually does help her calm down and feel more grounded (we don't use it for more than 30 min a day currently but we may use it multiple times a day in the future if need be but again with at least a 30 min gap interval and no more than 30 minutes at a time) and she loves it - The weights are labeled ( 2 big ones are 0.5 lbs each and each of the 4 smaller ones are 1/4 pound each) for a total of 2 pounds and so you can adjust it according to what you feel is best - I like that it is machine washable on a cold, gentle cycle once you take the weights out - The neoprene material used is very soft and the mesh panels are great for breathability and air flow - It is made with high quality materials and I think it will be durable in the long run - No odors or tags Cons: - None Overall, I think this is a great vest for autistic/adhd kids who are sensory seekers and could benefit from a vest like this to help them feel calmer and more grounded. It is the feeling of a nice, comfortable hug and my daughter loves hugs! Read more

I owned a different weighted vest in the past and my son didn't want to wear it, largely because of the strong neoprene smell, even after it had been washed. I was excited to see the claim that this one doesn't have that smell and it's basically true! Nothing overwhelming, that's for sure. I don't know how they did it, but it's a blessing to kid with sensory issues. Read more
