Travelon Anti-Theft Classic Large Backpack

I used this backpack on a three week trip to Europe. It kept our things safe. I also used a coiled cable and combo lock to lock our things to chairs while eating at restaurants. It held so much. I highly recommend Travelon things! I’d had purses from them and they last and last. My mom brought a Travelon purse to Europe also and she used it for day trips. Kept her things safe!! But this backpack is AWESOME. 3 main compartments. I used one for my laptop and it was safe the whole time. Love this bag!!!! I used it as my personal item on the plane and we mainly used it for walking around the city we were visiting. You really can’t go wrong with this bag. It’s the perfect size for getting around town - held two water bottles and a large folding umbrella, as well as our money and passports. RFID blocking was reassuring. Why did you pick this product vs others?: I wanted the antitheft features—slash proof body and straps. I’m paranoid and mistrustful of others. You can buy zipper clips, but zippers can be broken and someone could just cut your bag open. This bag seems very durable and it’s comfortable on my back. I’m 5’4 and it’s just right. The bag is a nice size but there are a few improvements that can be made. There is only one bottle or umbrella pocket, so you’ll have to pick. I don’t like that. Most bags nowadays have 2 outside pockets for items like that, so I’m not sure how Travelon left out that important design feature. The 2 front pockets are very small and narrow. It’s difficult to fit everything I need in there and then retrieve it without having to pull everything out in the process. I use this bag for school and it’s a tight fit for books, a laptop and charger, a binder or expandafile, my stethoscope and BP cuff bag, pens, pencils, post its, and some basic toiletries. I really like this bag. Bought for overseas travel to places where pickpockets are abound, this bag has kept things safe from prying hands either by deterrence, or actual protection (which hopefully it did as I was not aware of any such instances). The zippers have little clips on them that hold them closed and takes a moment to open, thus delaying unwanted openings. It is quite sizeable and has now permanently replaced my old schoolbag as my personal item on flights. The shoulder straps are nice and thick, and the back has a breathable mesh. I purchased this prior to a week-long trip to Central America, with two main considerations in mind: using it as my carry-on (putting my laptop and other electronics, plus emergency change-of-clothes and toiletries, inside, so as not to be in my larger, checked bag), and for all my exploring/hiking once I arrived. Basically, this bag saw A LOT of use in one week--being lugged all over ruins, going through torrential downpours, PLUS four flights--and all in all, it proved worthy to the tasks! Pros: 1.It fit the best of a half-dozen or so nice backpacks I tested out beforehand. (I have a tiny frame--5'4" and 95 lbs--so most larger backpacks are REALLY uncomfortable, hitting too low on the small of my back, with straps too wide for my very narrow shoulders (and often too long to be adjusted enough, vertically); this one was fairly comfy, at the maximum adjustment. 2. In downpours, everything inside got *slightly* wet/damp, but overall I'd say this bag can handle light rain with no issues. (Next time, I'll have a waterproof pack cover with me.) 3. This bag has a great assortment of pockets and dividers, which I found very useful. 4. It's quite attractive, although solid black isn't really my favorite; easy to use as a work piece. 5. The security features (anti-slash panels & straps, RFID areas, and locking zipper pulls) give some piece of mind. 6. Light-grey interior linings aid in seeing into the deep recesses. 7. Nicely-padded back and straps, WITH MESH on the backsides! (I've had packs that weren't mesh, and they get HOT. These breathe quite nicely.) 8. Has a (small) strap on the back for hooking over the handle of your roller luggage. 9. Dual water bottle/umbrella pockets on sides, that zip away cleanly when not in use. Cons: 1. It doesn't sit up on its own. Actually, it pretty much tips over no matter what I prop it against, so... something to consider. 2. It's ALL BLACK. (Fine for everyday use, but NOT ideal for outdoorsy usage. Mine now looks permanently weathered on bottom, after carrying it around ancient ruins for three days.) 3. Lack of a sternum strap. (I ended up having to hike my thumbs through the straps to put the weight more where it should be--when I didn't need my hands for climbing, etc.!--so I'll definitely use a third-party sternum strap, in future.) 4. Lack of a phone pocket anywhere on the side or back of the pack. (When I had pants or shorts with large enough pockets, that wasn't a big deal, but when I didn't, it was an inconvenience to take the pack off--or get my boyfriend to help--when I needed to fish my phone out.) In all, though, this is definitely one of the better-fitting, versatile backpacks I've used, so I'm giving it a thumbs up. Read more

This is easily one of the best purchases I've ever made. I've purchased other Travelon bags so I know it's a great brand, and when I was taking an international trip a few years ago, I knew I wanted another one. I've taken this backpack on so many trips the last few years and it still looks new- it is incredibly durable. It has several locks if you want to use them, I love the water bottle holder, and it has a ton of room in all the compartments. It's very functional & I know I'll be using it for years to come.
