Trooper Trapper Hat Winter Ski Hat with Winter Ear Flap and Ski Windproof Mask

Bought this for my husband to keep his face warm when he plows snow on his tractor.He said it worked great when the wind was blowing in his face. Kept him warm the whole time and the velcro neck closure was a plus to keep the wind from going down his neck. But when he was done and he was shoveling the deck he got really hot and had to take it off. He put the hat on when he was in the house and he heated up fast. So the hat definitely keeps you warm. It did fit him a little snug but he was ok with that. It did have the vent in the nose and mouth attachment which I read some did not have that when they got it. That part can also unsnap if you get too warm. I also bought one for my son for when he takes the kids on the snowmobile around the property and he said it kept him really warm. He loves it. I bought this to go up Mt Washington. Very warm hat. Very comfortable and very very soft on the inside. It blocks out the wind pretty well and can be tightened up on the nose and mouth with a piece of paracord tied to the back of the head. I love the look of this too. The camo is really cool. This hat is great for the wind. It keeps the wind from penetrating your hat, like other hats too. It also comes down over the back of the neck, which in the wind is very important. The only drawback I found was that the Velcro does not stay closed. Otherwise, I would highly recommend. Read more

There's a lot to like about this hat given the price. It's comfortable, soft, warm. The big problem is that I cannot wear it the way I want to, and I don't understand how it's supposed to be used. You'd think, given what the hat looks like, that it would provide standard ushanka type side flaps, only extending down to your chin and neck. But look carefully. Notice how the vendor-suuplied photos don't show a single person actually wearing it... There's a reason for that -- the neck area just does not work well. It seems to be designed for a really really wide neck. So while the head part fits very well, no matter how tight you adjust the velcro around your neck, it's extremely loose. Maybe people in China wear these along with a very bulky scarf? Or maybe they want it to be loose so it just blocks wind but nothing more? Regardless it's not what I wanted. You're better off with a traditional ushanka hat (that you can tighten round the neck) and a good cahsmere scarf; at least you can arrange the scarf to be as tight as you want. It's a real shame.
