Good quality and inexpensive
I didn't realize I needed reading glasses until I put on a pair and suddenly saw more detail than I had in a few years. I've always had excellent vision and the degradation was so gradual that I barely noticed it. The pair that I'd tried on belonged to a family member. They were a 1.0 diopter so I decided to order the same magnification for myself. I was doing this on a trial basis-- I wasn't sure if they would give me a headache, if I'd like them, if they'd be uncomfortable, etc. I settled on these pairs of glasses for several reasons: -Simple, classic style. I tend to be a minimalist when it comes to clothing and accessories. -Lots of good reviews. -Inexpensive, so even if they didn't work out I wouldn't be out a bunch of money. -2 pairs, so if they DID work out I could keep one pair at home and another at work. I've never worn glasses in my life so these took a bit of getting used to, but all of a sudden I could read fine print and resolve detail that had been blurry for some time. I gradually began relying on them more and more, to the point where now I hardly bother trying to read without them unless the print is fairly large. They are very light weight and now that I've gotten used to them I don't notice them. For the price I was not sure how good the quality would be, but I've been pleasantly surprised. The optical clarity of the lenses is very good-- if they're clean (I'm unusually good at smudging the lenses with my fingers), it's like they're not even there. The magnification is uniform and there are no artifacts or ripples in the lenses. I liked them so much that I ordered another 2 pairs (4 pairs total). I have one pair at work, one on my bedside table, one in my home office, and a fourth that usually lingers near the kitchen. I'm not always diligent about keeping a pair with me but for the price I can have duplicates scattered around so even if I forget to grab one, I have another nearby. My distance vision is still 20-20ish so I don't like wearing these for driving or even walking around-- they give a weird fishbowl effect when looking at anything that isn't really close in. I only wear these for reading, which means that if I'm at work, I have to carry these AND a pair of non-magnified safety glasses to walk through the factory. Something to think about but a very minor inconvenience. Slightly more annoying was looking at myself in the mirror for the first time while wearing these. I was blissfully unaware of how much gray hair I had until I could actually see them all. Damn, I look ROUGH. If you value your self-esteem, take them off before you look at yourself. I've had these for a couple of years now and wish I'd bought them even earlier. It's so much easier to read, look at diagrams, work on small machines and assemblies, etc. that I'm a little mad at myself for not doing something so simple to make my life easier. The 1.0 diopter have worked well for me so far (I've tried a 1.5 and found them too strong) and I don't see myself needing a stronger pair in the immediate future. However if I do, I'll buy these again with stronger lenses. Read more
