Survives my toy-shredding-machine dog

Alistair Andrew BaneDecember 20, 2025

I have a cattle dog pitbull mix who is a toy shredding machine. However his "nom nom tigers" survive very well for over a year at a time while other toys have a lifespan of maybe a week. He really likes the texture of them and they seem to be soothing for him to carry around. Great durable toy. Read more

Best dog toy brand out there! I’ve purchased many other brands and only Tuffy seems to hold up. Can’t go wrong Read more

★☆☆☆☆

Very Disappointing.

Allison S.January 1, 2026

My dog tore this apart in 10 minutes. I expected he would eventually wear it out, but for this price I thought it would at least last longer than 10 mins. Very disappointing. Read more

Not *that* tough ... but still an excellent toy!

Kat in the DesertJuly 3, 2014

These Tuffy toys are NOT indestructible, but I'm giving it 5 stars. My 9-month-old English setter, a very determined dog, suck/chewed open a seam within one week. I don't care, it's one of the best toys we've had. Most plush toys last five minutes, so a week before entry is made? Fantastic. The fiber inside was easy to remove once the hole was made and it took about two weeks before it was totally empty of stuffing. She's spent the last three months slowly making a rag out of it. It absolutely has kept her busy and not bored (as hunting breeds often get despite vigilant exercising.) The toucan now-a-husk and also the shark now-a-husk are favorites for tugging games with her litter mate, Pete, that comes over to play frequently. The toy is definitely sturdy. It also doesn't have a squeaker. That means, she can wake up at night with her extra energy --she has a lot -- give it a little chomp, and it doesn't make an alarming squeaky racket. (We've had a bit of trouble finding appropriate nighttime toys ... bones are grindingly loud, other toys squeak, one even sings happy birthday -- omg.) We have a HuggleHound that she has not been able to destroy at all that we bought at about the same time ... but it makes a wheezing sound that is hilarious but, again, not good for at night. I also don't find that she enjoys the HH with the same enthusiasm as she does the Tuffy toys. The toucan was harder to bust open than the shark. I'm going to try the penguin next, but I suspect a flipper will be taken out pretty quickly. If you are looking for a quiet, distracting, and fairly hearty plush toy for a determined chewer, this will work ... for a little while! Read more

Similar in size to Howie the Horse, TRex

PipsGirlJanuary 4, 2016

If you read reviews on these toys, you may have seen a few of mine. To date we have owned 1 small blue shark (when she was a puppy), 1 Pink Pig (as a bigger puppy), 3 TRex, 2 Pterodactyls, 1 Turkey, and probably 3 Howie the Horses. Howie the Horse is Mama's FAVORITE. You know what I mean. It's the one she loves, searches for, sleeps with, brings to you at the door as a greeting. (Note: The Pterodactyl was one of my favorites to watch her play with). She was ECSTATIC when she saw a new play toy come out for her Christmas Gift and she also loves this guy, but not as much as Howie. (Howie is a 10/10 love. Girard is a 7/10 love). Girard's body size is similar to Howie, but his neck is longer (duh) and his head smaller. She can fit his entire head in her mouth. Given as a Christmas Gift here are 2 things that have happened (it's 1/4): 1. There is a seam in the belly that looks to be separating. I'm hoping she doesn't discover this since her attention is on 2. the ears/horns. Now opened (for quality control I'm sure...) and minuscule amounts of stuffing are being discovered nearby. People always seem to complain on these reviews that their dog can tear the item apart in minutes. I found that you have to make sure you don't just give these over and walk away. We monitor her play and if she starts chewing on it, we take it away. This is listed as a chew toy but IT IS NOT. I have also done repairs on these to make them last longer and help prevent the destuffing. Check out the measurements of the item. I purposely try and by the biggest ones since I have a large dog. My 3 instead of 4 stars is based on the weak seam in the belly. If she gets that open, it's Stuffageddon! Read more

Tough but not indestructable - enjoyed by our puppy

Daniel A BerryMarch 14, 2014

Tuffy toys are built for strong chewers and they will last much longer than conventional stuffed toys. I bought the Toucan for our puppy and he really enjoyed playing with it. There are a lot of seams and narrow spots on this particular Tuffy though and that would be its undoing eventually. Our puppy worked through one of the leg seams with his sharp puppy teeth and the de-stuffing commenced. You can see why these toys are more expensive than conventional stuffed toys when you see just how much stuffing they put in them. The stuffing on these is really packed in and there is enough inside to completely fill at least a dozen similar sized conventional stuffed toys. Even after managing to breach the seam our puppy enjoyed playing with this toy, and the eventual empty carcass, for a long time. I would make sure he didn't eat any of the stuffing he pulled out and then let him continue playing with it. It took him several weeks to finally get it completely de-stuffed. The toucan is not as durable as some of the other Tuffy toys but it is still and good value and I would recommend it. Read more
