Fun boxing game

Eagle Visionโ€”February 1, 2025

I do not usually write game reviews but being a boxing fan, I found this to have good replay value for me as an older gamer. I have only played singe fights and a career mode, without online play. Fighters There are a decent number of professional boxers in the game to include Muhammed Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. Missing are people like Mike Tyson, Evander Hollyfield, Lennox Louis, Marvin Hagler, and other big name notables. The interface of the gameplay is versatile, as it can use the buttons or the Right and Left Joystick. What I liked about knockdowns is balancing the power bars rather than the hurried pressing of a button to recover from a knockdown. Response of the game to the controller is good. Graphics are decent but could be better in terms of shading and lighting of the characters and the ring. Boxers get swelling or cuts, though, when a boxer is knocked down, the extent of injuries are not necessarily reflected. Animations are good. One bug I noticed is when the clock runs out, I have been able to resist a knockout and the game endlessly stays at 0:00 allowing an all out brawl without officiating. You have to restart the system to get out of the bug. Progression for the career allows the user to choose resting, boxing training or social events. That beats having to do mini-games to better a fighter. As the career progresses, the boxer can work towards rankings, money, fame or build their boxing record. You have to select various staff (coaches, cut person, manager) along the way, as you progress. The coach can be upgraded as each match is won to improve boxer's attributes. You may select 3, 5 or 7 match resigning of staff. There is no interaction with staff in the game, per se, apart from choosing one versus the other. Once a title match is fought, it is automatically set up for a rematch; though I wish a rematch option could be deferred if the championship belt holder doesn't lose. Once the fighter wins the Unified Championship, he or she may continue the career defending the belt or fighting other boxers. There are two upgrades to include other boxers with downloads. I got both when they were on sale. They add to the replay value of the game, in my opinion. Overall, I am pleased with the game though the graphics aren't up to the usual PS5 level. Read more

Happy husband, he recommends

Husband is happy. He says it has good graphics, can be challenging and not an overly easy game. Good choices in characters to fight against and good choices while building your own character. Read more

Overdose of Saudi propaganda

Gregory Maltzโ€”June 14, 2025

I like this game despite less-than-stellar graphics, frequent freezes and cumbersome between-fight game-play in career mode. Part of why this is so cumbersome is because it takes the emphasis off fights and puts it on many training exercises, weight, coaches, cutmen, managers, negotiating purses, choosing opponents, etc. etc. It's just too much to deal with between every match. But my biggest complaint doesn't have to do with any of that. The developers (Steel City Interactive) were funded by the Saudi sports group (Riyadh Seasons). Why is this worth mentioning? Apparently, Riyadh Seasons didn't just insist on their logo being prominently displayed everywhere in the game in obnoxious ways, but for arabs to be featured prominently. This was a problem for me because I've been a boxing fan for 50 years and never saw an Saudi in robes come out to award the winner a title belt. Yet this is exactly what happens when you create a fighter and become the undisputed champion. See photos I uploaded. A Saudi dude in full head dress ghutra, sunglasses and robes comes out with the belt and awards it to your fighter. He then hangs out with you and your team in the ring to celebrate. After all the other pro-Saudi junk in the game I found this to be just too much. Too obnoxious, nothing to do with boxing. Just the fact that Riyadh gave Steel a bunch of money. We know Saudis are rich. I don't like being reminded of it in a game that should have nothing to do with Saudis. Other than that, Undisputed is really no better than Fight Night for PS3. That was a super fun game, so in the spirit of Fight Night, I give Undisputed a 3-star rating. I really DO NOT APPRECIATE Riyadh Seasons forcing Steel City to taint its game with so much Saudi propaganda. Super annoying and it decreased my enjoyment of the game even more than the frequent freezing, less-than-optimal graphics and burdensome between-fight requirements. To improve the game, I would fix those, remove the Saudi propaganda and also ask for more variation in announcers and refs--their voices and repetitive comments get old fast. But the main focus was obviously on the game fight engine and Steel did a decent job with this. You really feel like Sugar Ray Robinson for example has the proper fight style and you have to adapt your strategy to beat each opponent differently. It's fun in that regard. Read more
