DreamWorks Animation had surprised me since I first watched it in theaters, and it didn't disappoint me. The animation was slick and high style. The characters were fun and lovable. The action was incredible, and the humor was worth the laugh. Definitely recommended! Read more

This brilliantly produced film, I think, gives “virtual reality” a good name, whereby the term no longer is a euphemistic, smug way of saying,“Hooray, technology wins out over humanity.” Instead, this film exudes a very human presence. Every pose, gesture and facial expression is selectively chosen, precisely crystallized, and aptly placed in a sequence. I am rather certain that the animators wisely consulted stage and/ or screen actors at every turn. The animators also abundantly tap everyday experiences, such as seeing on television those politicians (like the film’s Governor character) who cannot help but transparently display egotism, opportunism, and pandering (as when peddling sentimentality). I cannot surmise how much voice actors served as consultants prior to the final process of animation, but they fit in perfectly, one way or another. This is truly great entertainment for the whole family, especially if viewing the movie together . Nothing controversial is present that might offend, and the criminals are never glorified, partly because their emotional vulnerability, along with their prowess, is apparent from the outset. So when the antiheroes finally come to the end of a long, windy and rocky road, it is believable to the audience when all the crooks finally embrace being “good guys." Preschoolers will like the slapstick, which includes physical combat that is spirited without being mean or deadly. Preteens will like the car chases and magical acrobatics, including martial arts. Adolescents will resonate to the Los Angeles vibe permeating the iconic districts of the city that are shown in unconventional angle shots while jaunty music plays in the background. (Thankfully, we are spared the all too expected Valley Talk.) Also, adolescents will pick up on some of the sly, ironic quips, along with an occasional hip term. With the closing credits comes a jumble of reprised highlights, nothing very profound, just rousing, like an encore demanded by an adoring audience, in this case, largely teens. One note of disappointment, however: Like many movies, this one seems to lose some of its self-discipline toward the end, as if the director and editor have grown weary. In this case, a bunch of additional twists and turns in the plot are crammed in as if time was running out. At the same time, the pace of special effects conspicuously picks up, as if the techies at DreamWorks clearly wanted to have the final say over the persona of the movie. Nonetheless, it would take many more negative aspects than just these to spoil this well-intentioned, good-natured, clever and funny movie. Read more

The movie is great checks every box. ✔️Comedy ✔️Drama ✔️Action ✔️Suspense ✔️Great story line ✔️Great characters To be honest the only thing that kinda made me look at it a little different meh was; the character run through on the extended version. They speak of it like this has never been done before. That is not true. Though it is 1 of to movie where animals take on a hiest in a Ocean 11esk way. Fantastic Mr.Fox was the 1st. I love both movies, but that was the 1st movie to do a heist is a more suspense fashion. The movie is great and as an adult I don't mind watching it over and over with my minions finding something I missed every time. 100% worth buying and putting in the night time rotation for the littles. The Bad Guys is an animated film that brings a quirky and lovable group of unlikely heroes to the big screen. Directed by Pierre Perifel, this delightful adaptation of the popular children's book series by Aaron Blabey offers a heartwarming and humorous adventure that will captivate audiences of all ages. The film follows a gang of reformed villains, consisting of Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Piranha, and Mr. Shark, who have set out to prove that they can be good guys. Eager to redeem themselves, they embark on a mission to rescue a kidnapped baby panda from a notorious animal smuggler. Along the way, they encounter unexpected obstacles and discover the power of friendship and selflessness. The animation in The Bad Guys is visually appealing, with colorful and expressive character designs that bring the lovable misfit gang to life. The attention to detail in the animation enhances the comedic moments and adds depth to the characters' personalities. The film strikes a balance between vibrant action sequences and quieter, heartfelt moments, creating a visually engaging experience. One of the film's strengths lies in its well-developed characters. Each member of the gang possesses distinct traits and quirks that contribute to the group's dynamic. The voice cast, including Sam Rockwell, Awkwafina, Anthony Ramos, and Craig Robinson, brings these characters to life with charm and comedic timing. Their performances infuse the film with energy and humor, eliciting laughter from both children and adults. The Bad Guys delivers a blend of slapstick humor, witty banter, and clever visual gags that will keep audiences entertained from start to finish. The comedic timing and clever wordplay add an extra layer of enjoyment to the story. The film's humor appeals to both younger viewers and older audiences, ensuring that everyone can find something to laugh about. Beyond the laughs, The Bad Guys also touches upon themes of redemption, friendship, and the importance of doing the right thing. The character arcs and emotional moments provide a heartwarming layer to the story, allowing viewers to connect with the characters on a deeper level. The film ultimately delivers a positive message about the power of kindness and the potential for change. While The Bad Guys excels in its humor and heartwarming moments, some viewers may find the plot formulaic and predictable. The narrative follows a familiar structure of a group of misfits banding together on a rescue mission. However, the film's strong execution, delightful characters, and engaging humor make up for any predictability in the storytelling. Overall, The Bad Guys is a hilarious and heartwarming animated delight that offers a delightful cinematic experience for the whole family. With its visually appealing animation, memorable characters, and a perfect blend of humor and heart, the film will leave audiences with smiles on their faces and a warm feeling in their hearts. Whether you're a fan of the book series or simply looking for an entertaining and feel-good animated film, The Bad Guys is a delightful choice. Read more
