Well-built grinder that consistently grinds beans to a fine powder (for expresso)

Benoit J. LheureuxJanuary 22, 2025✓ Verified purchase

This grinder is a game-changer that has elevated our essential morning brew. Pros: + The grinder is *massively* heavy-duty - not at all like cheap mass-consumer appliances. + The Titanium burrs appear to be high-quality metal that are machined well - after three years of use the burrs are still clean and sharp and there's been no apparently degradation in grind quality. + Overall this grinder feels like a commercial-grade product, I figure likely targeted at small coffee shops. + I regularly grind at about "8", which is really fine and perfect for expresso (goes to "10") ... if you're not already aware of this, being able to consistently grind coffee to a *very fine* powder *in scale* is precisely why coffee grinders should exist but amazingly when you look at reviews for mass-market consumer appliance coffee grinders that is a typical #fail. + I like the full range of grind settings combined with the either "stay on" or "momentary on" grinder ON switch options. + Just an aesthetic, but well worth noting that this grinder is a *beautiful* appliance - looks great on your counter-top! Cons: - The hole in the gasket that the vendor installed on the dispensing spout was too small, so the ground coffee was unable to freely dispense without backing up into the machine. I am somewhat handy at home so I ended up fashioning my own replacement gasket with a bigger hole, which addressed the problem. For me this wasn't a show-stopper, but I found this to be a really odd (mildly worrisome) manufacturing oversight. - When grinding coffee, particularly on fine settings like I use, static electricity builds up and causes some of the ground coffee to not settle neatly in whatever container you're catching the coffee powder in. I don't know if other commercial coffee grinders have some way (or some trick can help) prevent this, but it is what it is and regardless while a bit messy I've been able to work around the problem and do not consider this at all to be a show-stopper. Notes: * I grind our coffee weekly, then remove the two front screws to clean the burrs and interior of the grinding chamber with a special fine brush (provided, and takes only 2-3 minutes). It makes a LOT of sense to clean regularly to avoid coffee powder residue (and oil) build-up so I consider this neither a Pro or a Con, but perhaps some people would not want to be bothered with that task. * Considering the cost (I paid $389 at the time, now available for ~$300!) I had reservations about ordering from a South Korean vendor considering the shipping cost ($40) and potential challenges with very remote customer support. While after 3 years the grinder is still working flawlessly (fingers crossed), I do worry about how effective remote customer support will be if something goes wrong (I note that a couple of other reviewers apparently had problems with their product). Bottom Line: I love this grinder and would recommend it to anyone comfortable with the caveats I mention above. Read more

Disappointing Performance and Durability Issues

Simon DaoudFebruary 18, 2025✓ Verified purchase

⭐☆☆☆☆ Disappointing Performance and Durability Issues I had high hopes for the Urbanic 080 Electric Coffee Grinder, but after a one time of use, I’m extremely disappointed. 1. Inconsistent Grinding: Despite the claim of 100 fine grind settings, the consistency is all over the place. Even at the same setting, the grind size varies. 2. Static and Retention Issues: The grinder has terrible static buildup 3. Build Quality Feels Cheap: Given the high price, I expected a premium feel. 4. Loud and Slow: The motor is extremely noisy compared to other grinders in this range. It also takes longer than expected to grind, which is frustrating, especially in the morning. 5. Short Lifespan: During the first time, I started experiencing motor overheating and grinding inconsistencies. For the price, there are much better options available. I regret this purchase and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone serious about coffee. Read more

Try this for entry level arista hobbist experience

alexJanuary 19, 2022✓ Verified purchase

The coffe experience changes drastically with a good grinder in home, and this grinder it's a good one. So silence and fast and nice performance in the grinding experience, the taste of my shots are so much pleasent now, paired with my new FEESPEC scale. The Dosing cup feels Premium the analog increments are awsome and with perfect repeatability, you have to close de lid to avoid popcorning as i only use it for single doses. I almost can have good espresso shots from a cheap oster coffee machine now, lattes and cappuccinos are so delicious now. Cons? Cleaning the burrs is a little boring so i only do it once a week, oh by the way between the nozzle and the body it comes with a rubber gasket that i took off beacause it makes the coffee powder to stuck, and also every time you use the grinder i hit gently the nose for the last part of the powder came down, just a little hack that doesn't ruinned the experience at all. Definitly i don't feel any regret for not going for a Sette this Urbanic it's a great value for your money, and other than the plastic hopper it feels very Premium and it looks beatifull. Read more

Solid machine at a good price. ONLY COMMUNICATE WITH SELLER THROUGH AMAZON.

Raymond WalshJanuary 16, 2023✓ Verified purchase

This is a nice solid machine offered at a fair price. There's a little tab that controls how many beans enter the grinder, and thus the quantity of ground coffee produced. Static electricity inevitably result in the collection of coffee grounds around the metal spout. Over the course of a few minutes, the static dissipates and the grounds fall on the countertop and can be a bit messy. My strong advice is to only communicate with the seller through Amazon should any difficulties with shipment arise. Read more

not recomended

MONMay 12, 2022✓ Verified purchase

It works fine until I try to grind finer, from 8 and up according to the scale of the grinder, at that moment it works 1 or 2 seconds and stops, I have to reset the fuse of the grinder to be able to continue grinding for 1 or 2 seconds, to grind 16 grams of coffee beans it is required to reset about 5 times. I contacted the seller and he told me that it depends on the type of coffee, this is not acceptable for a good quality grinder. Read more
