Uriage Gentle Cleansing Syndet Face & Body Wash: I wasn’t familiar with the term “Syndet” and looked it up to see that it’s short for synthetic detergent. Science wasn’t my best subject so I’m not sure what that means as far as using synthetic detergent on my mature somewhat dry skin. My research said syndets are supposed to be more gentle and skin friendly than regular soaps, but it also pointed out that the anionic surfactants in syndets can cause sensitization issues in reactive skins. I tried the Uriage cleanser for a few days about a month ago when the weather was a lot drier, and it was only a few days before my skin felt uncomfortably dry, so I paused using it. I have had sensitivity issues in the past with facial products, but the Uriage cleanser didn’t cause any problems for me beyond the dry skin during the low humidity month. This past week I tried it again when our humidity was more normal, and the results were not as drying, thankfully. I was hoping to find a cleanser that removed both my makeup and my mascara, but I didn’t feel like the Uriage did a very good job removing the harder to budge mascara. It seemed to remove the makeup competently, but because it’s not a year-round cleanser for me, and because I had to add another cleanser to remove the mascara, I won’t be repurchasing it when I run out of this cleanser. On the bottle, it says “for dry skin prone to atopy.” I had not seen that term before, but, after looking it up, it described me to the nth degree! I have very dry skin (genetic) and am hypersensitive to airborne and other allergens, so, I have to use certain skin care products to deal with it. This product fits my requirements perfectly, and just a little dab goes a long way. I pumped just a very small amount onto my mesh bath pouf and the gel lathered up quickly. It also lathers up a lot in my hand without the mesh pouf, making it ideal for washing my face before bed. I am sold on this face and body wash! At first, my face felt a little tight from dryness, then eased up. The rest of my body felt smooth and didn’t look flaky. There’s no soap or fragrance in this dermatologically controlled gel, and I immediately remembered how products I used in France had the same pharmaceutical smell.
