I love ice cream (and gelato and sorbet)! This little ice cream maker is perfect for hot Texas summers (when the ice cream melts from the grocery store to the house, so we just don't get it). It makes a quart (I didn't make the full amount because on my first try, the amount was too much and overflowed and made a mess -- not going to make that much of a mess again). It comes with a USB cord for charging (doesn't need to be plugged in when you make ice cream -- this is great). I froze the tub overnight as instructed. Made strawberry ice cream mix and chilled overnight in the fridge. And, then in the morning tried it out. The first pour was a disaster and it spilled over and out and all over the counter. I tried again, with less and that was a success. Easy to use, but the first time it started up, the lid wanted to come off and I held it down for a second and that worked. And, then 15 minutes later, I had yummy ice cream! I should have just sat down and eaten it all (nice soft, easy to spoon ice cream), but I put it in the freezer and then had it at night (over those hours, it got really hard and I had to leave it out for 15 minutes to soften). While my initial reaction was "what a mess and a pain" in the end, I think we'll be getting a lot of use out of this ice cream maker (and will be fighting over who gets to use it since we have divisive ice cream thoughts at our house. This little ice cream wizard does its job well once you get past the part where you have to freeze the inner bowl overnight. So, no, it doesn't exactly make dessert in minutes unless you're living in a parallel universe where prep time doesn’t count. That said, once you're past the waiting game, the process is pretty quick and painless. I had tasty ice cream in about 20-30 minutes, which felt like magic after the bowl was properly chilled. The included recipes are a nice touch, but I'm really looking forward to experimenting with more flavors. So this machine is a one and done. I made the oreo cookie ice cream, and it was very easy to follow the directions. It came out very nice and was extremely tasty. The only ingredients were sugar, Oreos, egg yolk, and cream. My only issue is the container that needs freezing will only work for one batch at a time. After I made a serving, I tried to make another one and it just wasn't cold enough. It made basically was liquid. Keep in mind it takes about 10 hours to freeze the base.
