My desktop only has two USB ports on the front, one of which is taken up by my wifi-dongle. It has two ports in the rear, one of which is attached to a hub that is running out of ports. I needed a compact means to split the front port for a drive that does not work with my hub and to be able to charge my phone when I need to. This is narrow enough to not block my other port and works fine with my cantankerous Seagate portable drive. It also comes with a cover for the male part of the device and a carrying cord to make this a good solution for a laptop that need the few more ports, like to charge an IPhone and a watch at the same time.
