The original Vegeta is a 5/5! It’s an amazing vegetable seasoning that is so savory, it tastes more like chicken broth than vegetable broth. The secret is MSG. MSG is pure umami. It’s what gives Vegeta its richness and depth. If you don’t have a problem with MSG, stick with the original. Vegeta Natur is without MSG. To add umami, there are vegetarian (Parmesan cheese), vegan (tomatoes, mushrooms), even fish flavor (dried kelp) options. My favorite is dried shiitake mushrooms, whole or powder. Whole Foods’ Umami Seasoning (sea salt, white onion granules, mustard seed, garlic granules, shiitake powder, porcini powder, crushed chile pepper, black pepper, rice concentrate, thyme) is also fabulous. Also, use Vegeta sparingly. Think 1 tablespoon of Natur = 1 bouillon cube. It’s that concentrated - and very salty! So start with 1 tablespoon per 3 cups of water and then, if you want more flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon at a time to taste. Read more
