The heat sensor in the bottom of the induction unit is surrounded by some sort of plastic. After the first use, the plastic melted and the sensor no longer moves up and down. I notified Vermicular support, never received a response. Read more
It finally arrived to Amazon with a 120 VAC Vermicular cooker than the 100 VAC previously available. The Musui-Kamado (waterless cooking) is something I like to try and the result is not disappointed; I have cooked vegetables, chicken, and rice, all came out great with good flavor. Read more
Looks beautiful in our kitchen and has great presence, but the rice cooking quality doesn’t quite match that of a pressure cooker. It’s a bit pricey for what it offers, though it does get the job done. One issue I’ve noticed is that if I cook around 9 a.m. and leave it sitting for about 8 hours, rust starts to form on the rim. I probably should’ve oiled it, but I haven’t been as diligent as some of the more devoted users. The size is great—easily feeds six or more. I do wish I took the time to learn how to use it properly, but I’ll admit I’ve been too lazy for that. Read more
extremely well made. we use it for a wide variety of foods. Very pleased with the quality and packaging. Read more
This is a pretty fascinating device. When considering it, I had to really look it over and try to understand it. There are a handful of reviews out there from cooking publications, and it's good to do this research to see how others are using it. We don't cook a lot of asian dishes, but the description of being able to use it for sous-vide like cooking, and like a general dutch oven ultimately won me over. So, in general this is like a regular enameled dutch oven that happens to have an electric heating element surround that provides precise temperature control as well as a finely machined lid that locks in the moisture. It comes with a nearly coffee table style book of recipes and techniques as well as some measuring devices for rice cooking. If you've used an induction hot plate, the overall interface will be similar. It's weird that it "only" goes up to a Medium setting, but this does represent 450 degrees, which is really plenty hot to sear and cook nearly anything that needs high-ish heat. Overall, the pot is a little smaller than I expected, but that was my own mistake in not verifying the 3.9QT size first. Go to a housewares store to find ~4qt pots for a general size estimate. I had smoked a lamb shoulder but was pressed for time on my offset smoker and had to pull it. I put it in this Vermicular, set to 205* and let it cook for an additional 2 hours and it came out super tender, very similar to a pulled pork butt. I'm looking forward to trying some vegetables in this as apparently it creates a really interesting steamed but crunchy texture. Weirdly, this would make a pretty decent travel device as it can do many different functions, I could see adding it to an RV setup, taking it to a cabin, etc, as one might with a crock pot or instant pot. The dutch oven can be used alone, and it is an amazingly finely crafted piece of cast and enameled iron. This thing is definitely pricey, and not for everyone, but if you enjoy cooking with cast iron, enamelware, semi-insulated long cooks, etc, it just might find a place in your kitchen. Read more
Decent (but not great) product while it lasted. It took a month to reach customer support, and follow-up emails have since been ignored. Support feels non-existent, and overall it’s been a terrible experience. I wouldn’t recommend this company. Read more
