What a pounder. It hits hard if you gotta and soft when you need to be. It’s easy to maneuver when you increase the engine RPM just a little. The higher the RPM depending on the type of material you are compacting it practically moves by itself. The quality is amazing for the price point. It starts easily and runs smoothly. It’s also easy on the petrol. Use the high octane fuel with an additive to compact ethanols destructive properties. Change the oil at the first 10 hours to rid the crankcase of normal break in metals. The weight is somewhat manageable but lift correctly. It’s a great workhorse to add to your landscaping equipment. The media could not be loaded. I feel like most reviews complaining about this machine could have been avoided if people READ THE MANUAL. This compactor is great value for the money! Please read the manual, as it specifies which oil to use depending on your ambient temperature and how much oil to put. I had to use SAE 30, as I am in Arizona with ambiet air over 40°F and I am guessing most people should actually use that. Mine arrived covered in oil, so I made sure to add oil to the vibrator assembly and cleaned up the spillage. I had no problem starting it up with the engine oil filled to about 3/4 of the gauge stick and gas filled to the bottom of the gas filter. No leakage occured just a bit of smoking right at the beginning that lasted less than a minute, which is normal on engine startup. Overall, easy to use, sturdy, relatively compact machine that does the job if used correctly. P.S. it comes without a paver pad so I am using a small rug that my wife wanted to throw away :-) Read more

Update 5/27: MFG replaced unit at no cost. Was a painful process to get through but it was replaced. I have not used the replacement unit yet. Will update after use. Do not buy! Used for 1 hour on the first day, worked great. 2nd day, started it up and the belt shredded and came off after 10 mins of use. Now I'm being told the item cannot be returned??!! $400+ is an expensive lesson... do not buy this unit! I'd give ZERO stars if that was an option. Read more

This is a great compactor at a fair price. The smaller size is best suited to sidewalk and patio preparation and compaction. It states clearly in the directions to fill it halfway up the dipstick, not too much and not too little or the oil sensor will prevent operation. Also, during shipping the little bit of residual oil inside used to test this prior to shipping may leak out if it gets tossed around during shipping. Wipe off the oil, fill to proper level and start. You will see white smoke while it clears itself out and then it will run fine. If the air filter gets dirty clean it out using online guidance. This lost one star because the packing allowed some damage to the air filter housing box and the muffler housing which more or less is a shipping issue. However the packing material could be better to prevent this. I can live with that due to the competitive pricing. Read more

The media could not be loaded. This plate compactor is almost completely assembled right out of the box. Just put the handle on and bolt the throttle cable on the handle. Engine oil was not included, but no big deal. The engine looks like the very reliable import we all know and love. It starts about as easy as that one too. I smelled the paint burning off the muffler on the first run but that stops smelling after a few minutes. It does the job way easier than manually tamping this stuff down. No way to lock the handle in the upright positioin to wheel it by the handle around on the two hard wheels build into it. Good unit overall. Read more
