If you have any need for a self-draining mat in one of the offered sizes, this may just be what you need. The weave is wide open on one side and only somewhat constricted on the other. This could be great for draining the snow melt off of boots and shoes in a mud room or elsewhere. I am using it for my snowblower in the garage. By turning it upside down ("open" side down) it allows me to easily wheel the snowblower on and off of the mat. It also protects the snowblower where spinning it into and out of the tight spot on the concrete where I keep it has worn a hole in one of the covers' corners. Bonus: it helps even out the approach where the floor has heaved a bit. This is thick enough to make it a great "standing" mat. Stepping onto it provided immediate relief to my aching old feet. I already have other padded mats, but I could see using this in front of a workbench or engine bay just for its padding quality. I am guilty of not paying attention to the warning on the box to NOT store it standing up. I did so in our cold garage for several days before opening it up. There was a slight crinkle near the bottom end. I think that the cold added to the fact that the mat was fairly tightly rolled up in the box, limiting the temporary damage. I did let it sit out in a warmer room before unrolling it and it smoothed out nicely. (This also gave our cat some time to consider how to approach this new, giant toy, er, box. 🙂) Once in place, I rolled the snowblower and a heavily laden cart on and off of it a few times and the mat stayed in place pretty well and seems solidly constructed. I bought this entry mat thinking water would go straight through, leaving our feet more dry to enter the house. The mat holds water like a sponge, so it is soaking wet long after the rains have stopped and everything else is dry. That means that on dry days, we tracked in water after stepping on this super-saturated sponge. The mat is useless to us - too soaked to return, so we plan to trash it.
