Awesome game underrated If you love or like hack&slash games with guns must try out Read more
I really like this game! don't listen to "game critics" I'm on my 3rd run already! The star of the game is definitely the gameplay. I do have to warn to all that THIS IS NOT a 3rd person cover shooter with meele attacks, but instead is a solid fast-paced 3D arcade beat'em up based on CQC combat where you have to chain katana attacks with handgun fire to unlock the coolest "gun-fu" John Wick-style finishers. The use of a assault rifle is complimentary to the combat, mainly to draw distance bewteen You and some enemies ). Parrying is also key in this game to kill enemies faster and of course there is a skill tree that as you progress it will transform you into the ultimate mercenary in all Hong Kong. The game direction is crazy and the story is straight up nonsensical. I can only describe it as a Japanese misinterpretation or homage to 80's action B-movies. It has all the movie tropes or cliches, from the rebellious retired bad ass chainsmoker protagonist who is called for one last job, the foreign villain with an accent, from cheesy one liners, to your police chief throwing you of the case for following a clue that only lead to millions of damage in private property. From the music to the retro futuristic aesthetic, even for using Danny Glover, Willem Defoe and Tom Cruise lookalikes! The game has many more wacky things but i don't want to spoil them, it's a fun ride overall if you like japanese games from studios like Suda 51, Grasshopper manufacture, Ryu Ga Gotoku or Kojima Productions then you're in for a treat. My only complain with this game is what appears to be a bug that occurs once you finish the game for the first time you'll get a new dificulty mode and new Game+ BUT you can't choose to change difficulty which is insane. I am craving for Japanese Hard but the game doesn't let me pick it. Read more
Underrated amazing game! I hate reviewers. This is such a gem. Read more
Calling back to an era before most modern day gamers were even a thing in the world, let alone the technology of the current-gen consoles, Wanted Dead is a little more than just a self-aware throw-back to those wild days of fishing $5 games out of GameStop’s garbage hole. This full-priced throwback reminds me of the love affairs I had with eccentric Japanese creators that demanded my $65 just to see what they were going to experiment with… what strange new systems or mechanics will they throw this way next? I can safely say, it’s been far too long since fans have been treated to such a subjective and divisive classic. It seems a lot of players have been seeing influences from all across the spectrum of video games, most being right, but also very wrong. Wanted Dead is an amalgamation of many, many predecessors in various ways: fast and frenetic action similar to things like Vanquish, Binary Domain, Ninja Gaiden, MGS: Revengence, Killer Is Dead, and especially Devil’s Third - however, it also has nothing to do with these games outside of a glimmer of remembrance. Well, except for that last one… this game does indeed take some spiritual successions from Devil’s Third, but not only builds out the ideas presented there, it perfects them to the point of pure fun in this formula. Gun and sword combat are fluid and feel phenomenal when put to work properly, creating an almost seamless ballet of butchery and bloody viscera. This game starts to give off a real Wick-like power trip… right up until they decide to hit you with an enemy type that’ll flatline the experience in one hit. The difficulty spikes are manic, going from casual hack n slash, right to dead dropping you before you’ll know what hit you, then it’ll take a few tries to get down the more difficult enemies and move back onto the rhythm you were drumming previously. Enemies are OG, therefore they can absorb more bullets than sword slices, and even those are dealt in an amount that’d put The Bride in The House of Blue Leaves to shame. While gunplay could use some tightening, the thing bounces around more than necessary, making it almost impossible to hit enemies in certain scenarios. Though, I can’t complain too much, given the guns are more of a means to thread together the spaces between the player and the enemies, only to then put the punishment down with the sword. And the sword is where things get fun… separating limbs and heads from torsos is a wonderful thing, and even more spectacular once skill points are added to create more over-the-top Wickity-Wick-Witchery - seriously, the finishing moves never get old, and really sweeten the push to keep threading more and more together. Altogether, the locations provide plenty of playroom, and running space. The enemies are practically the same in their given chapter/level, and very seldom are they seen afterwards, if at all, though in their designated levels they are mass-produced lookalikes for mindless slaughter, so you won’t miss them when they’re gone. There’s a handful of bosses that each offer their own challenges in various ways, some requiring a variety of techniques, and others that’ll only push the melee combat only. Some can feel cheap, especially at first, but none of them are impossible. The spider tank seen in gameplay demos was my favorite personally. Difficulty overall is subjective, as it seems some people are struggling, but then others aren’t having too much issue at all. I fall under the latter, with most of the game being a fun breeze, until the game difficulty spikes in almost unfair ways that’d surely down even the best of us. The presentation and style here is also a mix of many things, and this time most of it is exactly what it looks like… things such as the side activities: arcade machine, claw games, karaoke, ramen eating contests, and the shooting range, all are practically pulled out of a game like Yakuza, even in their odd charm. However, I didn’t find myself getting into too much of this stuff due to it feeling somewhat in the way of what the game is doing in its primary. These activities are located in the police precinct that’s available for exploration in between missions, and this is where you’ll also be able to experience the game’s more oddball storytelling techniques, with one collectible kicking off a flashback to previous crime scene beat - and shortly after that, another memory into the past is presented in an anime style cutscene. These story beats are staggered throughout, and often feel out of place or disoriented. Voiced by an international variety of accents, coming from all sorts of countries and regions, it’s clear the cast is setting a tone to further the weirdness into a place of pure humor. In fact, it’s these very strange interactions that kept me engaged in what was going on, way more than the story or plot ever did… I honestly couldn’t tell the overall story in detail, as it was literally back-burnered to bake into smoke and cancer. Though, there’s an overall tone very similar to other intentionally offbeat narratives and characters, like Deadly Premonition or No More Heroes. In fact, I found there to be a lot of charm similar to a Suda 51 game, offering up something that’s full of flaws, but as a whole is so weird that it becomes wonderful… and in the case of Wanted Dead, the wonderful part is the glorious fountains of inner fluids that are being sprayed around, as the player stacks points towards a more beautiful dance of bullets, blades, and body parts. On the whole, this game could definitely use some technical tightening, it’s very deserving of some love for everything it does right: being absolutely gonzo fun. Definitely not for everyone, but as most have said: if you’re finding an interest in Wanted Dead, or like what the trailers had to show, give it a try! I absolutely wouldn’t blame you for waiting on a price drop either, as $65 is pretty steep for some, especially for a AA game, but I also won’t tell you what to do with your money. At around 8-12 hours, I’d gladly buy this for $30-$40 all day. That’s just me though, and per every review: all of this is just one person’s opinion, a subjective perception… Read more

Okay, right off the bat, this is going to be a game you're either going to love or hate. It's like if Deadly Premonition, Ghost in the Shell and John Wick had a baby. And for me, I absolutely adore this game. Does it have its problems? Absolutely. But most of those problems are where the game gets its charm from. Voice acting? Terrible. But in the best way possible. Combat? Janky af. But once you get the hang of it, extremely satisfying. Difficulty curve? All over the place. It's not a game you can brute force your way through. It's going to require some skill, luck and lots of continues. There isn't a lot more to say other than, for me, the game oozes charm and pure insanity. It's a game that doesn't take itself too seriously. And, with how triple A gaming has been in the last few years, I greatly appreciate. If you've played Deadly Premonition and liked it, this game is for you. If you're the kind of person who enjoys more methodical, narrative driven experiences, you should probably skip this one. But I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoyed the ps3/360 era of gaming. When games were fun, not too complicated and ridiculous as all hell. Read more
