Exactly what I was looking for, canvas backpack with zippers at a reasonable price. Seems well made. Love it so far! Read more
Sturdy and waterproof. There are better backpacks for hiking but this served very well. I'm happy with it. Read more
I finally found a waxed canvas backpack that has what I needed without the bulk of weightly buckles and bits and bobs that really aren't useful. They aren't even pretty. This is a simple backpack with one classic large front pocket and two side stretchy mesh bottle pockets. It has a top sunglasses/phone stash pocket lined with microfiber. That is kind of an extra pocket that I wasn't expecting. The interior of the main compartment has a laptop sleeve for a 15.6" laptop. It doesn't have a false bottom or extra padding on the bottom of that pocket. I combat this by carrying my laptop in a laptop sleeve with a bit of foam padding from packaging material tucked into the bottom as extra padding. Even with all of this extra padding, my laptop in its sleeve fit without touching the top of the bag. There is an inner zippered mesh pocket for small things. I use pouches to organize those things. I will say the straps could use more padding. You can get after market strap covers to add padding to it. The straps are a reminder that you don't need to carry too much stuff as it is always bad for your back. This pack is a great everyday carry size without the fluff of extra pockets that are so small you can't use them for more than a band-aide. No uses those credit card pockets for credit cards. Why do some makers put them in your backpack? Not this one. They don't have those annoying pockets on this pack. They give you nice leather pulls instead. I will say that the side bottle pockets will be the first thing to go on this pack. They could have been made of better material that would be more durable. The elastic top is stitched onto the pack by a single line of thread. They could have done bar tacks at the top to reinforce this top stress point. I did go in with my sewing matching and bar tacked this area with matching upholstery thread. The stitching everywhere else is is spot on, so the bottle pockets are the weak link. This is a great durable pack that is very water resistant and keeps things simple with as few pockets as possible. The only leather do-dads you will find are the zipper pulls. There are no excessive buckles, clips, heavy zipper pulls, or or general extra junk that clinks and clanks as you walk announcing your arrival. This is a great silent pack made of durable waxed canvas. Nothing more, nothing less. Read more
Love this backpack. It's very well made looks great and has plenty of room for a laptop + all the accessories I typically need to bring along with it. It's naturally water repellant, comfortable to wear, and as people have pointed out, canvas only looks better as it's used. $50 is definitely more than your average small-medium backpack, but in this case, it's easily worth it for the quality you're getting. Highly recommend. Pros + Hands down my best looking backpack. Great looking canvas with a simple exterior design, understated branding, and leather accents on the zippers. It looks a lot classier than the typical hiker or sport backpack, and canvas picks up a nice aged look as it gets creased. + Very high quality. Every stitch, seam and fine detail looks excellent - no expense spared on the zippers or metal strap adjusters either. + For its size, pretty roomy. As said,, I'm able to fit everything I need in it for a day out tech-wise. + In spite of the fact that padding is pretty minimal, this has been comfortable for me. I've worn more comfortable backpacks for sure, but considering what this is, it isn't bad at all. Cons - Could use more inner pockets and dividers. The inside only has the one spot for a laptop, and a small interior mesh pouch, that's it. It works, but my things can sometimes get disorganized easily. Read more
The waxed canvas gives this backpack a slightly weathered look, like you've had it for a while and it's still in great shape. The pull tabs are all leather, which is a nice touch. The waterproof canvas covers all the zippers when it's zipped up, so things inside are protected from rain if you're caught out without an umbrella. The storage scheme is pretty simple, which I like--I have a "business travel backpack" with dozens of zippers and pockets and compartments and I'm constantly opening and closing sections trying to find something. Features are: * Inside: Large open area with a padded laptop sleeve at the back. The laptop sleeve is padded on both sides (the side in the open part and the side that's the back of the pack), so your computer is well protected. * Top pocket. I haven't had one of these before, but it's really useful for your phone, wallet, and keys. * Front pocket: Typical front storage with some internal pockets for organization. * Two mesh pockets on the outside for a water bottle and...well, a second water bottle or something else that you don't mind having exposed. * Shoulder straps are nicely padded and adjustable. My laptop is black so it's hard to see in the photos, but I've packed a full-size 14" laptop, two grad school textbooks, and a really full looseleaf binder in there, and there's plenty of room to spare for lunch, snacks, an umbrella, hand sanitizer, or whatever else you need for a full day at work or school. It would also be great for hiking, day trips, overnights, and possibly even a full weekend depending on how much you like to have with you. It's definitely a great "daily driver." Strong recommend if you want a durable, organized backpack that's a little more interesting than the standard Jansport or other nylon pack. Read more
