I've been suffering from cold sores for a few years that are triggered by the sun. This is the only product that has protected my lips completely! I like to vacation on sunny beaches a few times a year and I thought that I would have to stop or at least never see sun on my face again. I am forever grateful that this product exists! It goes on white but quickly melts to mostly clear and stays on for a long time even under water. I still apply frequently when I'm in the sun though just to be safe. The formula melts quite a bit in the applicator when it's in the heat so you can't use it like a usual twist up applicator but I love this so much that is the least of my worries! I have sensitive lips and the sun exposure unfortunately causes reactions if unprotected. Overall, the upsides far outweigh the downsides. Best in class IMO. Pros: I have had no adverse reactions that I used to have with homosalate or octocrylene SPF products. Very gentle formula, and very nice mint feel. No sweeteners. Manufactured in the US. I'm not getting sun-induced reactions so I conclude that this product must be effective. Cons: The only downside to this product is that it is not tinted and therefore, white residue might accumulate. You can mitigate that by thriving to apply a thin layer of the product and spread it evenly. Read more

May be a nice product, but the containers are unusable as the product in filled way below the plastic “lip” that holds it. Complete was of money and time. Disappointing Read more

The product is hard and chalky and as a result doesn’t glide onto your lips easily. In fact I found I have to remove some balm with the edge of the lid and then soften it with my fingers and apply that way. If it try to glide the balm across my lips very little balm is deposited and it just hurts and tears. Maybe the product would benefit from some lubricating natural oil added. I do like the fact the block is high level SPF as I have had precancerous lesions on my lips (actinic keratosis). The zinc oxide which is in this product, is known to be excellent at deflecting harmful UV rays. Read more

I really like this zinc based lip balm. It does what it says— I used to have very dry, chapped and sun burned lips. Not now! It does have some drawbacks— gets hard in the cold, too soft when it’s hot; is like wearing white lipstick, and has no flavor— but I live with those because it’s so effective.
