This is a terrific product. I am a MAC user as wells PC and I found it easy to convert to a format readily accessible for both MAC and PC. Western had easy instruction to find, access and follow on their support site. I am not a programmer or IT Guru, so even Could get it done in short order. Once done, it was a breeze and I was able to transfer all my data and files to the drive and free up necessary hard disk space. It is light, portable and fast. I can now access the data between my MAC and PC. If you need a drive, I recommend this one without reservation. The price was right and it is a sold performed. Great for the road warrior like me. Great drive. Reasonably priced for a 2TB. I have 3 WD portable drives. They all work well and a couple have lasted several years. The difference between this one and the Ultra is backup software. I don't need it. I needed a good external drive for use with my PS4 and this one works well. But, you'll have to reformat it for FAT or exFAT. PS4 won't recognize NTFS file system. These portable are great. I greatly prefer them to standard external hard drives. There's no need for an external power source. It gets all its power through the USB port. This drive is USB 3.0. The performance is pretty good. Seems to maintain 100 MB/sec read and write speeds and higher depending on the file size. It can drop to close to 50-60 MB/sec for large file transfers. This drive is about as small as it can be and not terribly heavy. It's a great choice if you need some external storage. I trust Western Digital. Based on years of good experience with their products. I do not trust the other brand most typically compared to WD. I have had major problems with their drives. Read more

I've been using this for a few months as a backup drive for my iMac. I have it velcro'd to the back of my mac and I plug it in once a week or so, let TimeMachine do it's thing and then eject and unplug. It spins up quick and I have no issues. It's amazingly small and doesn't make any noise - which is great with keeping down the clutter. Setup was very easy, I reformatted it, selecting the format type of "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" to clean up any things they may have pre-installed on it. Then opened up TimeMachine from the Settings app and selected it as the drive to backup to. Then you just need to give it a few hours for the first backup. Quick and easy. Read more

I have used WD's My Passport external HD's for a long time and they have proven to be very reliable and trustworthy in all of their iterations to date. I recommend them highly. As with any magnetic media you do need to take some care with them (they are not baseballs), but the even the original one I got ~5 years ago still works. I have reduced my rating by 1 star because the two most recent drives I received from them used GPT in spite of the fact that it was less than 2 Tb. Given that most non-PC devices still won't interact with GPT (many still require FAT32), and that the other primary reason for installing GPT is for a boot disk or highly partitioned disc (both of which require changing the partitioning) I felt this an important drawback (I am skilled enough it was only an annoyance, but they may lose a sale to both their and my future customers due to this added skill barrier in using the HD's). I've had this bad boy for over a year now, and it has worked flawlessly. I've had it on my PS4 mostly, and after I switched to PC at the beginning of this month, the transition was mostly painless. When I plugged it into my pc, it did not show up in the file explorer as a drive. However, it did show up under devices. I assumed this was because the drive had been formatted on my PS4 and so it would not show up on my pc. I searched everywhere on my pc for a way to format it like you would a thumb drive, but nothing would show up. After doing some searching online, I discovered the WD Drive Utility software on their website. After a quick download I was able to format the drive, and now it's usable. Currently, it's acting as my backup for windows. Read more

Received this item on time and in excellent condition, thanks to the way the manufacturer packaged it. Use it for my primary backup for new Dell XPS-8910 tower computer using Windows 10 Home edition. It is located on top of the pc and connects to one of the USB 3.0 ports on the front of the pc through about a 10 inch long USB cable that comes with the unit. Installation, settings/user preferences, and online registration of the unit was flawless, quick and easy. I have it set to perform a backup of my C: drive every hour, and it does the job in a timely manner on the hour. I have run all the diagnostic tests that the device is equipped with, and all have passed. The extended test that checks the entire 2TB drive took a little over 6 hours to check. I have not had to test the actual backup function yet. I also have an earlier model of this drive on a different, older computer since 2014, and it has served me well so far. Read more
