I use it for backups, since the additional speed makes that process less painful. It definitely works faster than a standard external HDD. However, it's still a HDD so speeds won't be nearly as fast as SSD or NvME. Given the price difference between SSD / NvME and this product, you can't beat the price, quality, performance, and most importantly capacity for a HDD, since comparable SSD, etc are far more expensive for this amount of space. For good performance for gaming or large data storage (imaging, backups), it's a good product at a decent value. Read more

So you’ve finally run out of space on your PlayStation — surprise, surprise. Enter the WD_BLACK 4TB P10 Game Drive, the digital equivalent of that extra closet you’ve been desperately needing but never had the courage to ask for. Plug it in, and suddenly you’ve got enough space to hoard every game you’ve ever wanted to pretend you’ll finish someday. And by hoard, I mean seriously hoard. 4TB? That’s like a game library’s worth of commitment-phobic purchases. It’s portable, which means you can brag to your friends about your massive game collection while secretly hoping they don’t ask to borrow it — because sharing games is for amateurs. Also, it works seamlessly with PlayStation, which is a relief because the last thing I needed was another tech headache. Fast, reliable, and ready to carry your digital baggage, this game drive is basically the unsung hero of every gamer who’s said “Just one more game” one too many times. Read more

I got this external hard drive to supplement the tiny hard drive on my gaming laptop. I could have just installed another internal drive, but that’s a lot of trouble I didn’t want. It works extremely well, and while Steam downloads are a tad slow (large game, USB interface, or network speed could have all been the culprit), I did not see a lag time when actually playing the games. The product’s form factor is small, somewhat armored, and lightweight. I also bought a hard case for it, as my setup has to be portable. I am quite pleased, overall. Read more

When I came across the "We suggest the Black model for your gaming needs" message I figured it was just marketing. But given that this drive is the same cost as a non-gaming drive...why not? I've had issues with hard drive not disconnecting on the PS5 causing an error message at every startup and a hard drive repair. This has happened with hard drives AND SSD so I figured it's just a problem with the PS5 and bad design. However... I haven't had this problem since I switched to this drive. In general the PS5 interface is extremely sluggish, and games load REALLY slowly, even from the Internal "high speed" storage. In general, the PS5 is just a lousy console, but there are upgrades that can improve the experience. One of them is a good optimized "game drive". This particular drive is a bit more rugged than other plain ones, and looks like it came out of one of those Toughbook laptops. It's just a USB hard drive like any other, cheap for the capacity, but I'm imagining the cache and firmware must be optimized for this specific use because... I can't quite logically explain it but this hard drive is MUCH faster than even an SSD plugged into the PS5. It just loads up games near instantly, and they download and install faster than before. The hard drive errors on shutdown and restart seem to have stopped. So overall? If you are using a video game console this appears to be the ideal external hard drive that you want. It's certainly the one I want going forward. Read more

Had this since 2023 to fill my giant Xbox library. Got a PC now so formatted the drive for my pc. Xbox now has official Seagate expansion card. Using this drive to fill less demanding games and emulators to not hog up the internal SSD. The load times are slow for demanding games for the Xbox, but games like LAD 7 and most of the Yakuza series loads up fine on the drive. Games with those graphics handle well. Silent Hill F struggles with textures and load times playing on the game drive for the PC. That being said, use it for less demanding games when on PC. On Xbox, it runs mostly fine. Try to get this when it’s on sale. Very good product. Read more
