I bought this from other sellers, but this seller was the most legit. Platinum Micro Inc. I bought another one before this one and I got a smartctl Failed. this one passed of course. These ultrastar high capacity drives are a little different. They are a little bit more noisy. But they are great for their storage level and price. I am using it will a linux os and for personal/work, not RAID or data center. I formatted it to ext4. Will update if I run into any problems. This is my account on first getting the drive. I generally feel better with WD imho. Read more

This is used in my personal server, and I can confirm that it is both the quitest and fastest hard drive I have owned, though this is my first helium drive. I love it and will be buying more when I need them. Read more

Hopefully arriving tomorrow. These are based off the old HGST drive line. Which was hitachi before western digital and Ibm before hitachi. IBM had the "Deathstar" line of drives and did a 180 and became the most reliable drives there are. Im glad these are not hyped as it saved me some coin over the golds. I currently have golds 6tb andc bumping 3 of them to 20tb ea. I will update in the near future.... Edit: 3 came in registered them with WD and I got 5 yrs. Legit. Comes in typical hard drive brown cardboard box. The packing material was some air pods, but there were a lot of space for the boxes to move and bump. But if they last 5yrs then they should be good..... Happy so far. Unraid is rebuilding parity now. Read more

I've been using WD drives for my HDD needs for years and have always had good luck. I've also been using Ultrastar drives ever since Hitachi introduced them years ago, and the ones I have still work! So, naturally, when WD took over manufacturing them, I figured it was a safe bet. I have 2 18TB models and 2 10TB models that are still going strong, and now, just added this 20TB. Some have complained about theirs being a bit noisy, but I don't seem to have that problem with any of mine. Perhaps it has something to do with the setup of my case and where my HDD's live. One other thing that I really like about these HGST drives is that they run cooler than my WD drives, only a few degrees Celsius, but it's consistent with all of these Ultrastar drives. Compared to other drives of similar high capacity, these are definitely good quality and a good value. Read more

I purchased 8 of these hard drives for a raidz2 truenas configuration. After a few months a scrub detected a URE in one of the drives. The particular drive was fulfilled by SabrePC and was not covered by the WD manuf warranty, however they cover the drives with a 5 year warranty and the RMA process was completed promptly and without hassle. Very happy with my purchase. Read more

Ive bought three of these and all have been running fine 24/7 (all from amazon, but different seller) needed another one and just bought it 'sold by' Platinum Micro, Inc. the drive arrived not in the manufacturers box and when running the serial number with WD it comes back as a grey market so no valid US warranty. returning. in a pinch it would be fine but if you expect full value from a full priced item this isnt it. I bought 2 years ago, Seagate Ironwolf pro 14G, as per reviews they were saying it is noisy. Comparing Ironworlf to WD, Ironwolf is sooooooo soft and noiseless. Till now, I faced 2 issues with WD; 1- It is tooooo noisy during running and spinning, I am not that meticulous person regarding the sound of the HD, yet it is vvvv obvious that it is a loud HD. 2- This is why I bought is its 512MB cach memory, I was transferring 6TB for almost 14 days and still didnt not finish yet. I had to transfer 500GB/Day (24hrs), then close the PC to take some rest, then repeat again. The data I am transferring in Games files (either ISO file or the setup files). Plus, it had 2 times failure during transfer, so I had to repeat this day's work again. Below my expectations totally, till now, I think Ironwolf is much better, as non-technical person. Read more
