My DirecTV Tivo had started to reboot alot. I replaced the old 80 GB hard drive with one of these 250 GB A/V drives. I cloned the old drive with Winmfs software I got free off the internet and now it works great. I have a lot more record time and a stable Tivo again. This Audio/Video hard drive is exactly what is needed for these DVRs. Thanks guys. Read more

This drive is doing sterling service in my TiVo unit - I had to replace a failing drive and chose this model as the best size/price/specification compromise for the TiVo. No problems so far (6 months in), so it gets my vote for the moment! If it faily catastrophically at some point, I'll come back and edit the review accordingly. Read more

Got this drive to replace the failing drive in my 8 year old TiVo Series 2 (which is now on it's 3rd hard drive). Because the TiVo still uses IDE (also known as PATA) hard drives, which haven't been common in desktop PCs in more than 5 years the variety of A/V (audio/visual) drives has decreased the the price has started to go up. When this drive fails in a few years (not unreasonable consideringt eh TiVo is running 24/7) I wonder if I will be able to buy a replacement for it without paying through the nose. As for the drive itself no problems so far, these drives to work well in my TiVo's (both my TiVo's have this exact drive now) they last a reasonable amount of time and perform well. The new drive is quite a bit faster than what came from the factory and the TiVo responds better now. Read more

Purchased as a replacement for a failed hard drive made by another "less reliable" brand. Replaced the failed hard drive this Western Digital and never looked back. Fast, cheap, and reliable - a great combination. Read more

This is as advertised. It's a true AV drive which is meant for 24-hour continuous operation unlike most other drives which are meant only for being run 8 hours per day 5 days per week with sporadic usage in that time period. Read more

I use this as my main media storage. Works well. If it were not for the fact I have a 1 Tb HD as my main it would do well as a main HD as well. Read more

This is a very quiet A/V drive I used in a series 2 TiVo upgrade. It was the highest capacity parallel interface A/V optimized drive I could locate. My only concern is that it seemed to get a bit hot when I copied all my data over to it. I did not measure the current drain; the specs. claim it is quite low. Having the drive use low energy is a major consideration for DVR applications for two reasons. Since it runs 24/7, low energy use has the least impact on the environment and utility bills. If is uses a lot of energy it will also likely generate a lot of waste heat, which will shorten the life of the product it's used in and add to my overall cooling load, further contributing to environmental and utility bill impact. I upgrade SA8300HDC DVR to from Western Digital 160GB to WD 500GB PATA drive and it's working 100%. The internal upgrade allows for 60hrs HD programing and 300hrs SD programing. The speed and quiet operation is better than expected. This drive was designed for internal DVR and video recording units. The built-in software format and initlized the 500GB within ten minutes.
