About this item

  • Available in capacities ranging from 1-14TB(1) with support for up to 8 bays | (1) 1MB = 1 million bytes, 1GB = 1 billion bytes, and 1TB = 1 trillion bytes. Actual user capacity may be less depending on operating environment.
  • Supports up to 180 TB/yr workload rate(2) | (2) Workload Rate is defined as the amount of user data transferred to or from the hard drive. Workload Rate is annualized (TB transferred ✕ (8760 / recorded power-on hours)). Workload Rate will vary depending on your hardware and software components and configurations.
  • NASware firmware for compatibility
  • Built for small or medium business NAS systems in a 24/7 environment
  • 3-year limited warranty(3) | (3) MTBF specifications are based on a sample population and are estimated by statistical measurements and acceleration algorithms under typical operating conditions: workload of 90TB/year and drive temperature of 40°C. Derating of MTBF will occur above these parameters, up to 65°C drive temperature. MTBF does not predict an individual drive’s reliability and does not constitute a warranty. They have been working good with my NAS

For the first time I have a NAS at home and I needed 2 HDD to do a RAID, which I had to make sure the HDD were specifically for NAS, something I didn’t know. The price is pretty good, the disks are working great, no loud noise, and good speed so far. Time will only tell if they keep working without issues, which I hope is the case, even though one is a clone of the other disk. Read more

Used to repair Tivo OTA

I purchased this item after my Tivo OTA's hard drive failed. The install was very easy and worked as expected. The hard drive storage capacity is more than enough for what I need. Since the Tivo I have has been discontinued, being able to repair it with this hard drive was a godsend. Read more

Good Quality, Long-Lasting Disk Drives

I currently have 35 WD Red NAS disk drives spinning 24x7 in my homelab, ranging in size from 2TB to 6TB, mostly used in RAID-5 configurations, 7 of which are newer WD Red Plus drives. Since I began purchasing WD Reds in 2014, I have had only 4 failures, 3 out-of-warranty and one replaced promptly by WD under warranty. WD warranty replacements (for other drive types as well) have always been quick and easy to manage. It should also be noted that I have 13 WD Reds in operation since originally put into service in 2014-2016, and they are still running strong. My experience is that WD Red NAS disks are quite hardy, especially if they run in a well-cooled and ventilated environment. Also, they provide great value for the money, and Amazon has been my biggest and best supplier having provided 23 of the existing 35 now in operation. Read more

Western Digital has definitely screwed up

I'm rating this at 3 stars, not because it doesn't actually perform well (it does), but the fact that WD effectively requires me to buy RED PLUS in order to get drives I can ACTUALLY use with ZFS should have made me switch brands. But their price point is still better than the rest. Read more
