Have had good luck with the Western Digital HDs in our security system, much longer life compared to standard drives. These systems do give these devices a workout. Been a couple months now and this one is working fine, and the price was really hard to beat this time around. Highly recommended. Edit. Failed after 15 months. Wasn't aware that the one I bought was a used drive. WD wasn't helpful at all with a warranty replacement, LOL. I'd like to see the original listing. Read more

For the price is a great product, you can not say much about how or how long it will stay working well. I just assembled it, cloned my old hard drive that was already giving me problems to the WESTERN DIGITAL WD5000AUDX, the most that I like is that it is very silent even though it is working a lot and high temperatures, it does not feel any noise or strange noises. So far with Windows 10 as OS on my computer has not arisen any inconvenience. I do not know if in the following days or during the year there will be a problem; so far all good in the first hours of use; I will be pending to my review and update it if something happens that makes me change my mind. In fact with more than a year of use in my 10 years old computer, in which I have run large programs of high demand for processing, I have encoded, copied and deleted large files, and I have constantly updated my operating system windows 10, and everything in perfect order and operation. Ordered this for my DVR for my security camera's. It arrived early and with a total of 8 easy screws (4 to hold the hard drive itself into place and the other 4 to the cover/casing of the DVR) I had it installed and ready to use in less than 5 minutes. I bought two of these some time ago for backups, and when I filled them up I bought two more. (You can never have too many backups.) I use them with a StarTech USB SATA/IDE docking station (also bought on Amazon) and they perform beautifully. Really only takes 30 seconds to setup, if you're already savvy about computers... go to Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Storage/Disk Management... and then just mount the thing... you don't even have to 'format' them. From the start, this item was not recognized by the OS. I would have returned it for replacement but since I didn't need it right away it wasn't tested when it was received. I have ordered several hard drives from Amazon and this was the first one that was defective out of the box. I ran a diagnostic and recovery program on the drive and it was hopelessly defective. So I will throw it away, order a replacement and be more careful in the future. Read more
