I needed to feed the spring back on when it arrived, but it works great and fits my drink mix pitcher and shaker perfectly! Handle could be a bit longer. Great price! Read more

For several years, I worked at a restaurant. I learned how to do it all - cook, clean, serve - but maybe most importantly, make excellent drinks. I never thought too much about what I was using to make those drinks until I left the restaurant industry. One day I was making drinks at my apartment, using a "julep" strainer (basically a spoon with holes in it), and I was extremely frustrated. Julep strainers spill, strain poorly, they're just a mess overall. I'm sure there's a better way to use them and I was just doing it wrong, but come on. After your third drink you want something that just works So I bought a Hawthorne strainer, the pinnacle of drink-making engineering, and threw out the other one. If you're typing, use a keyboard. If you're walking, wear shoes. If you're making a cocktail, the right tools matter—you need a Hawthorne strainer. It’s not even a question. This particular one was fine. The spring is attached, the metal is durable, and the size is correct. Side note: never, ever get a cobbler shaker. You can get away with a Parisian (two metal cups), but your best bet is a Boston shaker: one glass, one metal cup. You fill the glass with ice, pour your liquor, and actually see what the hell you’re doing. Read more
